CAMP CONFIDENTIAL: LEJOND CAVAZOS’ BEHIND-THE-SCENES LOOK AT OHIO STATE’S ONE-DAY CAMP

93844_h.jpg

Lejond Cavazos, a four-star defensive back from Florida's IMG Academy, attended Ohio State’s one-day prospect camp on June 12.

This marked the fourth trip to Columbus for the 6-foot and 186-pound Cavazos, who is among the top-rated prospects in the Class of 2020 and holds nearly two dozen offers from programs such as Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas A&M, UCLA and USC.

Cavazos' parents and older sister accompanied him on the two-day trip, which only solidified the Buckeyes’ standing as the the overwhelming favorite in his recruitment as he closes in on a decision this summer.

But don’t take my word for it. Instead, take the words of Cavazos, who gave Eleven Warriors an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at his camp visit below:

On Monday, June 11, my family and I arrived at The Ohio State University around 4 p.m. I couldn’t wait for them to see the Woody Hayes complex and meet the coaching staff.

Weston Zernechel, the assistant director of player personnel, was waiting for me at the front door. My dad and I went straight to watch the team workout, while my mom and sister went on a tour. They were able to meet with [senior athletic academic counselor] Dana Blount and tour the facility.

We all met up at the indoor facility to watch practice, and I spoke with several players. We left to have dinner with my former teammate, defensive tackle Taron Vincent, and that ended our day.

Tuesday morning was camp day. I was so excited to show off my skills to the staff.

Before camp started, defensive coordinator Greg Schiano sat in his office and explained to my family and I his philosophy on defensive backs and how I fit into the Ohio State system. I felt really good about the plan they have in place.
