Game Thread CFP Semifinal: Ohio State vs. Clemson, Sat 12/31 @ 7p ET, ESPN

Remember that before the season the Vegas line on total wins for the Buckeyes was 8.5. For the team that returned fewer starters than anyone else in the FBS division, OSU exceeded expectations dramatically. They lost two games. The horror.
It was a horrendous game that ended what had been a marvelous season. Sense of perspective needed here, for sure. But there are serious problems on offense (and specifically in the passing game) that must be addressed in the offseason. What changes are required I'll leave up to the guy who's paid multiple millions annually to figure out.

Moving on. Piss-Poor offensive performance is an understatement at this point. From execution to creativity in play calling and everything in between. I do believe our guys were motivated and prepared but couldn't adjust because there wasn't a counter punch built into the game plan. Did the staff really not have any anticipation that maybe their Dline would come out with their hair on fire?

Football is hard when you're handcuffed by your own stubborn volition. Time to move on and adjust Urban.

This is 100% on the coaches
Clemson did nothing unexpected.. which makes this all on the coaches
We did nothing Clemson didn't expect.. which makes this all on the coaches
and sorry Urb.. you too

PS the fact Durbin was a headcase.. was not a surprise
why give a 2nd chance.. when he was 1-4 in last 2 games in critical situation

So I wasn't dreaming or blackout drunk last night. That actually happened.

What's breath taking to me is how @alexhortdog95 called the offensive struggles shortly after Beck was hired. Not only that but the supporting detail which he offered.

No small coincidence it would seem.
Yes, I recall him highlighting that Beck's offensive philosophy is to keep the defense off guard by constantly doing different things.

Is it really a surprise the offense has no identity under him?

Negative plays on first and second down is what I see killing this offense. It's false starts, sacks, -3 yard pass plays...it never fails, we are behind the sticks and it's been happening all year. I still feel like most of the blame falls on the play calling but you can't be successful from 3rd and long all night.

I was going to say we can't blame Beck for JT's regression because we only have one data point but that's not even true. Cardale had serious regression as well. Both looked amazing when Herman was the coach and the next season both were avg. Beck has literally cost cardale and JT millions of dollars, I feel awful for them

So, I have heard some folks bemoaning the [Mark May] we will take from this loss not only nationally but by our conference foes. To the Pedsters, Scummers, and others, I have one thing to say. Call me when you win a National Title and have made it to the playoffs 2 out of 3 years. Better yet, call me if you even get there.....
I agree totally. One game doesn't define a great team or season. Scum lost to FSU, PSU GOT LUCKY THIS YEAR. MSU lost big last year. Easy to criticize... Buckeyes are much more consistent year to year.

So unless someone can do something better, then you've not the right to take issue with it?

I guess that makes music far less subjective of a topic now, doesn't it?

I see some mention of our lack of talent on offense. Pitt put up 40+ points on this same Clemson team. I had to let that one sink in myself.

More to the point we ask ourselves why this offense was so successful in 2014 and especially the post season run...? It's easy. WE imposed our will with our bread and butter, the IZ run and built everything else off of that.

When you take a grab bag of plays and throw them out there, well, you might as well just go play Madden. That's the only place that type of strategy works.

South-Freaking-Carolina State managed a field goal on Clemson. We were the only team to be shut out by them all year. This is our first shutout in over 2 decades, and that includes the '99 and '11 teams. If people still believe that it's not the coaching, then they'll never be convinced

Correction: South Carolina State was shut out too so they know what it's like
