Bengals' WR Questioned in Man's Slaying

MIAMI ? Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson was questioned by Miami police regarding an investigation into the shooting death of a man.
Johnson, a Miami native, spoke with detectives Monday at police headquarters, according to The Miami Herald.

"Chad has confirmed to the club that he cooperated with the Miami Police earlier this week as part of an investigation," the team said in a statement released Friday to The Associated Press. "Police have characterized this as a routine procedure and have stressed that Chad is not a suspect or even a person of interest in this case."

Classic. Wouldn't it be poetic to top off the Bengals' problems over the past year with a murder charge on their most highly visible player around Super Bowl time?

Yeah, I know they say he's not a suspect, but they said the same thing about Ray Lewis - who clearly was a suspect.

It would be incredible if somehow he was indeed a suspect, and charged/convicted.

I really hope its not him, though, because I always had a certain respect for him for not getting in trouble off the field, and being able to control his attitude with just fun smack talk.

He's not involved. He knew the guy. The cops are doing what they always do, talk to people who knew the guy to see if they have any idea who might have the motive to kill him.

Just curious but when was the last time anyone here was asked to come down to police HQ and talk to them about a murder?

Even if he had zip to do with this, which I'm sure is the case, this means someone he knows did have something to do with it. When are these guys going to learn that the people and places you choose to associate with have a significant impact on your life?

BTW, I'm a die hard Steeler fan and I like Chad Johnson. I want him around for years to come.

never. i'm just trying to say that if you know someone well enough who gets murdered you're going to get questioned. it doesn't mean you're a suspect.

Never said he was. My point was that I wish these guys would make better decisions on who they choose as friends and places they go. I know its no ones fault if they get murderd, thats pretty obvious but the reality is if you stay away from high risk places, people, situations etc the chances of having it happen drop dramatically.

Sorry if it seemed I was bashing Chad or the dead friend but this on the heels of what happened in Denver seems like CJ didn't learn anything from that tragedy. Of course I don't know the timeline of events but that was just my initial reaction to the news.

Was he at a bar where this guy got killed? nope. Did he grow up in a rough area? yup, I am sure that he has probally known someone beofre that was murdered, or someone that killed someone. Hell he may have even been asked about other cases the difference is right now the media light is on anything a bengals player does that has anything to do with the police.

As far as the compared to ray lewis....big difference....chad was not with a group of people who got into a fight and someone ended up dead like lewis.
