Chad Johnson (official thread)

Bend facts?

The guy does dances in the end zone. He mocks opposing DBs. He predicts victories (something most agree is ass-like when Mike Hart does it). He's got gold/silver teeth and mohawk hair. (something that would get him criticized if he were an NBA player.) And yes, he does bitch like TO about his role in the offense. Anyone remember this gem:

"Anybody have the stats for today?" Johnson said in Monday's Cincinnati's Enquirer. "Four - that sucks. You have your best player, and you can't even get him the (expletive) ball. I just go out there and get the job done. But now, all of a sudden, there is a problem this year. How many catches did I get? Four. That (expletive) sucks, too."

Like I said, he's an ass. He's a "me-first" player and any attempt by him to even act like he is humble is just that - an act.

So having gold teeth and a mowhawk makes him ame first player....right. Just because you have braylon edwards as you best receive no reason to get all jealous.

Beleive what you want to beleive, I have seen him in person a couple of times around town and no not at events that are set up by the team or the nfl and see what he is like thne so I will take my personal expericen with him over anything you have gleamed off of the tv while you wer ewearing a dog mask and eating a milkbone, thanks though.

It's not jealousy I assure you. If Braylon were as good as Chad Johnson, it wouldn't change the fact that Braylon is an ass. I don't care if he puts up 1600 yards next year, Braylon Edwards is a piece of shit, following in the lines of TO and Chad Johnson.

Please. Just because you get excited as a teenage girl at a Justin Timberlake concert when you see him doesn't change his actions or his statements. I do "believe" that you cannot defend the quote I have above - nor can anyone else. That is who Chad Johnson is regardless of how you want to fluff it.

TRhere is no need to defend it, what you stated as reasons are merely you point of view. As far as his exact qoute yeah he said it and he was frustrated. It was after a loss, he felt he helps the team win and he said something that he knew the media was going to run with but he said it anyway. if that one qoute is all then big fucking deal there have been plenty of other times where he has put his team first.

Apparently, he can keep his mouth shut when the team puts him first.

No wait, take that back. His mouth is still running - it's just not directed at his team.

StadiumDorm, why the hard feelings? You've never been frustrated and said such things? Granted, his were televised, but I still am quite sure you aren't spending thousands and giving your time towards charity. I would choose CJ over most players of the same ability because of his desire to win. Frankly, I'm happy that he feels that way, that he wants the ball to help his team win. You have made an invalid assumption that the receptions are the source of his frustration. In the correct context, the quote would appear much differently.

The guy does dances in the end zone.

So does about 90% of the NFL

He mocks opposing DBs.
All in fun. It's obvious to anyone not blinded by hatred

He predicts victories (something most agree is ass-like when Mike Hart does it).

Not even close to the same situation, and you know it.
Hart's comments was poor sportsmanship after a loss. Chad predicts victories BEFORE the game, and his team seems to LOVE IT.

He's got gold/silver teeth and mohawk hair. (something that would get him criticized if he were an NBA player.)

Like Dennis Rodman was? I don't remember most people talking shit about Rodman for THAT

And yes, he does bitch like TO about his role in the offense.

To compare CJ to TO is absurd. Not even close.

Like I said, he's an ass. He's a "me-first" player and any attempt by him to even act like he is humble is just that - an act.
Yeah, you know him so well that you're sure his being humble is the act. I'd say that his talking trash is the act, but I don't know him as well as you.

That's true. When TD celebration dances are mentioned, Chad Johnson is just another guy, right? :roll1:

All in fun. It's obvious to anyone not blinded by hatred

And you could say that about anyone who has ever talked trash or tried to show up their opponent. But that's just pure spin to make the actions seem less motivated by a complete and utter lack of humility.

Not even close to the same situation, and you know it.

Well, that's it. If a player predicts a victory and his convict teammates love it, it's ok. I'm glad we can finally draw the line there.

Like Dennis Rodman was? I don't remember most people talking shit about Rodman for THAT

Really?

If Chad Johnson was in the NBA, he'd be just another guy that white suburanites used as an excuse not to watch the NBA.

To compare CJ to TO is absurd. Not even close.

Is he as BAD as TO? No, but is anyone? And can't we all agree that TO is the biggest ass in the NFL?

Yet Tony Romo seems to think he's a great guy that lifted him up when he was down. He's never had a run in with the law. He plays hard when he is on the field. He wants to win.

Doesn't matter. You can't have tunnel vision only toward some of the good things a player does, while ignoring the actions that show the guy is a showboating dickhead.

EDIT: What I find funny is that if this conversation were taking place on a Dallas board, Cowboy fans would be singing the same tune about TO - "oh, he's never been arrested", "He donates to charity", "He's just passionate and competitive", "It's all in good fun"

CJ and TO are two totally different people off the field IMO. CJ, when do you ever hear him causing trouble for his coach. He does his job on the field and off the field he has reasonable fun. As for TO, he does his job on the field, but off the field, he complains to his coaches and causes a virus in his locker room.

You sir, are a product of ESPN. Everyone's favorite station has blown this way, way out of proportion. Consider it. A player has the same desire, and yells at his coach, his teammate. You haven't ever been in a professional sports situation that resembles his, but it is his choice to voice his opinion. However, throughout his "flamboyant" career, there has been one common denominator. Guess who publicized every story, from his anger at the organization to what brand of TP he uses? Thats right, ESPN.

What makes TO different from other receivers? We've seen them angry as well. TO just happens to have led the NFL in TD's while he had a injured hand/finger or whatever it was. Please, explain how he isn't the best receiver in the NFL, and why he is a "me first" player, as you said earlier.

TO does cause problems in the locker room. Notice that he doesn't say, this organization sucks. He feels that if they got him the ball more, his team would perform more successfully in the National Football League. Guess what? He's right. TO Is one of, if not THE, best receivers in the NFL. Getting him the ball more would be a start for Dallas.

I'm don't really think I should have to debate the merits of the prevalent opinion that TO acts like as ass. It's only a matter of time before he publicly throws Tony Romo under the bus just like he has every other QB he's played with. Nothing short of Peyton Manning would satisfy his planet-sized ego - and I'm quite certain Peyton wouldn't play with him.

That's hilarious.

Calling TO an ass because he's an ass means we've all been tainted by ESPN.

Uh huh, sure thing.

Everyone's favorite station has blown this way, way out of proportion.
Blown which event out of proportion?

When he mocked Garcia as an alleged homosexual?
Or when he said Favre would fix the problems in the McNabb led offense?
When he got suspended from the eagles?
When he was run out of philadelphia?
When he spit on deangelo hall?

There is an endless list of incidents, at three different franchises.
Consider it. A player has the same desire, and yells at his coach, his teammate.
You're right, that does make him sound pretty terrible.
You haven't ever been in a professional sports situation that resembles his, but it is his choice to voice his opinion.
Well if we're going to play that card, then your opinion is unqualified as well... so why should we listen?

There are plenty of individuals in professional sports situations that act like professionals.
However, throughout his "flamboyant" career, there has been one common denominator.
He's never failed to throw one of his teammates/coaches under the bus? Oh, you weren't looking for that defining characteristic.
Guess who publicized every story, from his anger at the organization to what brand of TP he uses? Thats right, ESPN.
Yes, ESPN is an enabler to TO's vitriolic tongue... but that doesn't excuse his behavior.
What makes TO different from other receivers?
He runs his mouth about not getting enough passes in games where he drops crucial passes
TO just happens to have led the NFL in TD's while he had a injured hand/finger or whatever it was.
Funny, the great ones don't have to let everyone know they're injured.
Please, explain how he isn't the best receiver in the NFL and why he is a "me first" player, as you said earlier.
No, I'll let you do it.
TO does cause problems in the locker room.
Agreed.
Notice that he doesn't say, this organization sucks.
Are coaches not part of the organization?

"In 2001, after Owens' screw-up caused his team, the 49ers, to lose to the Chicago Bears, Owens criticized his coach, Steve Mariucci."

? Sept. 21, 2003: Throws a sideline tantrum directed at offensive coordinator Greg Knapp and is critical of new coach Dennis Erickson after a loss to the Browns. "It's my job to run routes and catch the ball," he says. "It's their job to know the personnel on the field. It's their job to know who the playmakers are and to design the plays."

? Jan. 13, 2002: Complains about his role in the offense following a playoff loss to the Packers. "I want to be the go-to guy on this team," he says. "But the play-calling doesn't always involve me."

"Sometimes change is good," Owens told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram on Monday. "I think it was needed."

"Coming into this season and this situation, I wanted to be positive," Owens told the Star-Telegram. "When I talked to [Parcells] for the first time we left an impression on each other. I still think he is a great guy. But he is like my grandmother. You love the person, but they are stuck in their old-school ways. You can't move them from their way of thought."

Getting him the ball more would be a start for Dallas.
He was targeted 153 times last season... how many does he need exactly?

No. He can dance better.

I guess I just don't see the attempt to show up opponents. You hate the bengals and CJ. I couldn't give a fuck less. I think he's great and I'm a bengal, sure you could feel the same way. But I've also seen CJ take quite a few cheap, nasty hits from opponents and get right back up, to the huddle without saying a word. Takes his medicine.

Oh, I'd assume that "humility" you mentioned is pretty scarce in the real world also. The truley good people have it, alot more don't, just my opinion.

Well, that's it. If a player predicts a victory and his convict teammates love it, it's ok. I'm glad we can finally draw the line there.

Actually, I was trying to prove a difference between Chad and T.O., who runs his mouth to the dismay of teammates. Actually tearing a team apart, unlike CJ, who's teammates use him to get fired up.

Yes, the Bengals have had way too much trouble with the law recentley. The whole team aren't felons though, as much as a browns fan with solja boy and Featherstone would like to believe that. I guess if ya' got jack shit to say that is positive about your team, just try and "show up" your rival fans team.

Really?

Not really in suburbia, though I am white. I guess that wanting to see basketball played with defense and the traveling rule aren't excuse enough.

Is he as BAD as TO? No, but is anyone? And can't we all agree that TO is the biggest ass in the NFL?

Yes.

Doesn't matter. You can't have tunnel vision only toward some of the good things a player does, while ignoring the actions that show the guy is a showboating dickhead.

Then quit trying to defend the whole fucking NBA.
