Chad Johnson (official thread)

Then quit trying to defend the whole fucking NBA.

I've never tried to defend the "whole fucking NBA." I've tried to defend the league and some of its players from baseless excuses. Every league has their bad seeds. It's just amazing to me that football players, hockey players and baseball players seem to be immune from character attacks as a whole when some of their players act like idiots.

There are plenty of guys in the NFL (and yes, that includes Chad Johnson) who would have a different public image if they played in the NBA. Unfortunately, though such an image would be well-deserved in my opinion, it would also unjustifiably reflect on the league as a whole.

I'm kind of surprised about the differences of what is tolerated by professional athletes in the various sports.

If Chad Johnson played baseball and did his celebration when rounding the bases after a home run; the next time he came to bat the pitcher would make sure that he would be wearing the baseball in his ear hole.

I call bullshit on the whole "Chad Johnson is a distraction preventing his team from winning" stuff.

So what, is Chad Johnson's act distracting his own team's defense, preventing them from covering or tackling?

The Bengals offense is still one of the top offenses in the league, thanks in large part to Johnson's direct contributions as well as the opportunities that his presence creates for other players. The Bengals suck because their defense sucks - and that is certainly not Chad Johnson's fault. The defense lacks competent players and probably leadership. You could blame the players for that, but they are what they are. It's not necessarily their fault that they suck. Blame Marvin Lewis for assembling that mess.

Keyshawn did have Chad Johnson backpedaling in the interview. I attribute that to Keyshawn drawing upon his own experience as a loudmouth and a cancer to know which buttons to push more than I attribute it to him actually being right about Chad Johnson.

It's easy to discuss CJ as a distraction angle. Even idiots like Chris Berman who use lines from 15 years ago can discuss him.

But if you have a discussion regarding the D, you need to be informed about Odell, Pollack, Brooks, Oneal, JJ, etc etc. That requires intelligence. Which the idiots on TV (including Berman, Tom "Hypocrite" Jackson, etc etc) have no clue about.

You mean someone else on ESPN that doesn't know what they're talking about?

I think that Chad had Keshawn backpeddling on a few things also. Chad and Keyshawn are actually cousins, and when Chad made the comment about he learned stuff from Keyshawn, you could tell he didn't know how to defend it. Notice shortly after Chad started calling Keyshawn and all the "suits" out for not knowing what was really going on the interview was stopped and Keyshawn left?

Both brought up some good points, and I think chad is right in many ways, that if he was a true cancer in the locker room he would not be there. Both Spikes and Dillion are players that the bengals let go because they felt they were better off without them then with them in the locker room causing more problems.

Dispatch

Chad Johnson told ESPN last week that if he's the problem with the Cincinnati Bengals, he should be traded. He also complained that the Bengals were not vocal enough in supporting him while he was, in his mind, being unfairly portrayed as the team's problem.

Team insiders speculate that this might be his agent Drew Rosenhaus' way of forcing a trade or a new contract, that if Johnson makes himself out to be the victim and whines loudly enough that he will become a distraction the Bengals don't want to have to live with.

Continued.......

wants to play for a contender...

So an NFL Network video posted on bengals.com Rich Eisen had Chad quoted as saying he wanted to be traded, and although Chad states his desire to play for a contender, he apparently is interested in going to Miami (saying "Parcels, call me.") Anyone find this ironic? As a Bengals fan I love Chad's production, but his complaints that he was blamed for the Bengals mediocre season are getting old. Any educated fan knows it was the defense, partially due to injuries, and also the absence of a running game.

On top of that, the Dolphins have to be what, at least 2 years away from ever even thinking post-season right? Parcels may have his hands all over the franchise, but it takes time. I guess I'm just frustrated. Any other Bengals faithful have any thoughts...? To bad its not like baseball, I'd send Chad to Miami for Teddy Ginn and a fourth round pick. I'd love to see what Ginn can do with Carson delivering the ball.

Did you miss the part where he said he didn't say that? Look the guy is frustrated, he had some key drops during the year, he feels that the team isn't doing what they are capable of.

I'm sure by training camp it will be back to normal for Chad, as the Bengals aren't going to trade him, as they don't want to eat that money, and Carson and TJ both will rally behind him, even if they do fight at times.

Not really a big shocker, the Bengals have been underachieving for a couple years now, Chad is a great talent and likes to show off. I don't see the Bengals trading him though, I think it's going to be like the Kobe Bryant issue, they are going to make him play his contract and see how it plays out. You can't blame the guy for being frustrated, and I can understand how Cincy fans would feel about any player saying that, but the Bengals have a lot talent and yet they don't make the playoffs? Was Marvins first year a fluke?

BF said it best, give him some time to get over it, see how it goes next year.
