Charles Barkley (merged all)

I read an article before the tournament that said that he told Turner Sports that he thought preparing for the broadcasts by watching film of anybody but the major teams was "bullshit", and they put him on the air anyway. He's not going anywhere.

He's had the DUI incident, gambling problems, he says controversial things about race, higher ed, politics, other public figures, and he called somebody a pussy on live TV. Does anybody really think he's going to lose his job or even a second of airtime because he's shitting on the Big East?

He wouldn't be going anywhere if he literally shit on the Big East.

Barkley was able to goad Rick Pitino into making a guarantee that Notre Dame would beat Florida State last night.

That alone is enough for him to stay on. He's highly entertaining.

Synopsis since they already took it down?

Barkley was chatting about the weekly weigh-ins that he does for his Weight Watchers gig. He said it was a bigger scam than his broadcasting gig, and that he was never missing a weigh-in because he's not passing up free money.

He then said the game was turrible, Harlan and Miller agreed and they started ripping on Atlanta. Barkley said Atlanta should offer their entire roster in a trade for Dwight Howard. Miller said "He won't go to Atlanta."

It was almost more interesting for what the other guys were saying as opposed to Chuck. Barkley was speaking in the same manner than he would on-air. He has no filter. The other two usually do though, so it was funny to hear them ripping on the Hawks.

I really really wish broadcast were like that. Open mic, free-for-all.

Why do they sugarcoat stuff? Less entertaining.

On Friday, both Weight Watchers and Barkley issued statements:

From Weight Watchers: ?We love Charles for the same reason everyone loves Charles, he?s unfiltered. We are thrilled that he is having great success and inspiring millions of men to join him. We agree that being a spokesman for Weight Watchers is a pretty great gig.?

And from Charles Barkley: ?I meant what I said, the fact that I?m dropping pounds, getting healthier and getting paid at the same time, is my definition of a great scam. The only problem is I?m going to have to use some of the money to buy a new wardrobe.?

For older guys like me that remember the early, early days of satellite tv (mid 1980's-the huge metal dish in the side yard style) we would often get to hear stuff like that because the feeds were raw and they had no idea people were watching them yet.

It was glorious.
