Charter Fishing in the Outer Banks?

BuckStocksHere

Semper Fi!
Anyone been? Looking for a referral for next week sometime. I've seen prices from $1100 to $1450 or so for 6 people all day gulfstream fishing.

Seems a bit hefty + adding in the 15-20% tip for the MATE.

We are staying on Kitty Hawk if that helps at all.....

BTW - I've never been to the outer banks before.....

I just got back from the OBX this past weekend, GREAT time! Fishing was terribly shitty because Barry just came through and messed up all the currents and such, the water was FREEZING at first. I did some surf fishing with no luck, but did catch some blue crabs. Go see the Wild horses that are north, was pretty cool. Did you get a house? Let me kow if you have any other questions.

I would be interested in some fishing info as well. We are going down later this summer. We do have a house up in the 4x4 area. Interested in some fishing options as well as a good golf course recommendation or two.

A house up in the 4x4 area will be cool, that's where the horses are. As for fishing, surf fishing can be decent. Use pyramid weights with a floating hook to keep the crabs off. Calamari works best, easiest to cast and stay on the hook. Shrimp can be used as well. I have heard using live shrimp to catch sea trout can be productive too. Crabbing was fun just buy some turkey necks, a couple of cages and throw it in near a pier at night, grab some beer and a couple of friends and just periodically check them. Put any you catch in a cooler with a bit of ice. Boil em up the next day with some old bay seasoning, beer, vinegar and water. Pier fishing you can usually catch a little bit of everything and there's one at Kitty Hawk. Oh, buy your license ahead of time on NC's fishing website, it's only $10 for the week, better to get that out of the way before hand. You can specify the period you want it for. There's a golf course on the islands more north that is frigging expensive. I did see a sign as we were getting there for golfing that was like $30 on the weekdays which isn't bad, but I am not a huge golfer.

We did rent a gigantic house that sleeps 16! We plan on having some fun. Thanks for the info so far - I guess nobody here has taken a charter out though hey?

Might have to resort to pier fishing...

The golf courses I saw were all 80 - 100 bucks. OUCH.

i partial to the northern stuff. not as busy and what not, though not as many nonbeach activities (bars, food places etc)

i have a buddy who i think went fishing in obx, ill call him today.

We are going with several of my family members and kids, so the bars probably won't matter. I think we have 22-24 people going so we should be able to stay busy where we are. Fortunately I do have a hookup at the Currituck Golf Club to play for free (normally $175 ea) but I don't know how many of the guys in our house are going to want to play, and how many I can get on for free. I need to find a nice cheaper alternate.

Our house is about 9 miles up from the end of the road, so surf fishing will be the most convenient for us. I have a feeling that with 22 people in a house I will be looking for some solitude on a regular basis.
