This is different from the Lebron situation. Lebron wouldnt ok a sign and trade, nor would he tell the Cavaliers his plans so that they could plan differently. At least Paul has been upfront with his desires.

Re: The Cavs announced early Saturday that they had agreed to a sign-and-trade deal with the Heat for James, the reigning two-time MVP.
The Heat sent Cleveland two first-round draft picks and two second-round picks, as well as a large trade exception, for James. The first-round picks could be between 2013 and 2017. The second-round picks are in 2012 (acquired from New Orleans) and a future pick acquired from Oklahoma City. For some reason, the Cavs will have the option to swap 2012 first-round picks with the Heat as well. The trade exception can be used within one year.

To set the record straight, yes he did.

so when he walks at the end of the year the barely scraping by Hornets get nothing instead of what they could have gotten in a trade for him.

Brilliant way to help the small market teams Dave.

Exactly.

The veto was a classic case of emotions trumping intelligence. No thought was given beyond that moment in time.

LeBron is satan. Facts are not allowed to get in the way of that opinion.

The difference was that the Heat had the cap space to sign all 3 players. The Cavs and Raptors ended up working out sign-and-trades so that they would get something back. It also allowed LeBitch and Rupaul to get max years on their new contracts. I just hope that clusterfuck in Miami falls apart before the Cavs start getting first round picks from the Heat.

I was talking about the summer before and also earlier in the process when it was becoming apparent that Lebron wasn't coming back. I think if he was up front earler, the Cavs could've gotten better pieces.

Sorry, I should have been clearer.

I was talking with my friends last night about how the NBA should just eliminate all but 8 team (1 in Boston, 2 in New York, 1 in Chicago, 2 in LA, and 2 in Miami), let the players join up with all of their buddies in their favorite city, eliminate the regular season and just let them play the playoffs.

Hell, they can even have multiple playoffs a year and the winner of the last playoffs can't participate in the next one. That way it is even easier for everyone to get a ring.

After all, joining super teams and getting a ring the easiest way possible is the name of the game in the NBA these days.

I know you're being sarcastic, but that would lose the sense of satisfaction felt when Dallas won it last year.

Pieces of what?

This is a superstar player in exchange for some bloated contracts.

I personally hope that the Hornets keep him and let him walk. Getting nothing will be better for them than getting albatrosses.

actually, that deal is terrible for NO and they can probably get something that will be better suited for them to rebuild from another team. kevin martin is a volume chucker. lamaar odom is a mental midget that refuses to leave the west coast. he'd never play a game for NO. Dragic is an expiring contract.

Even if what you say is true, that should be the Hornet's choice. If they want those players and agreed to the trade, why should the NBA say "no that's not good for you"?

if stern is stepping in in an ownership capacity, it's fine. kerr and ferry had an agreement on the amare trade and phx's ownership nixed it.

The NBA owns the Hornets so every owner should have a say if the Hornets are going to take on money, which was Gilbert's point. If Chris Paul wants to use his pits money and buy the Hornets from the NBA to trade himself to LA or NY for a bag of chips then the trade would go through. The problem is that nobody is going to buy the Hornets right now knowing that Paul is going to walk and all the value goes with him. Let him walk at the end of the season and sign a contract with any team that has the cap space to do it, but that won't be NY, Miami, Boston or LA.

Re: Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert.....I just don?t see how we can allow this trade to happen. I know the vast majority of owners feel the same way that I do. When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

:slappy::slappy::slappy:

Key excerpt:

I cannot remember ever seeing a trade where a team got by far the best player in the trade and saved over $40 million in the process. And it doesn?t appear that they would give up any draft picks, which might allow to later make a trade for Dwight Howard.

In any other sport, trades happen for one of three reasons...

  • To deal from strength to fill a weakness with a player of the same caliber
  • Salary relief
  • Draft picks/prospect
NONE of those things were present in this trade, apparently.

I loved reading the comments, too.

"Dan Gilbert is just pissed because LeBron left!" No shit, you idiots! This is what happens when somebody fucks with a billionaire with an ego. When fans and journalists get butthurt, the simply bitch about it on the internet. When somebody like Dan Gilbert gets butthurt, it's war.
