Cincinnati Bearcats (official thread)

Being forgotten in all of this is that Frease head butted Gates two years ago and threw an open handed slap at a UC player last year that resulted in a technical foul...Frease was not suspended for either action. I'm guessing Gates took it upon himself to fire a parting salvo before he finished his Shootout career...not condoning it, but if you're going to fire one off at least make it count and he certainly did that.

A visceral demonstration will occur on 09-27-2014.

Xavier press conference....WTF? I still maintain that any amount of jawing is does not condone or legitimize starting a brawl.....but Tebus, what a collection of fucking punks.

"We got a lotta gangstas in this locker room."

And the coach. WTF is this assclown thinking let these two imbeciles anywhere near a podium. I wonder if the President or Trustees of that clown college will have anything to say.

Maybe Yancy Gates would like to take on Kermit Washington. He played for the Lakers before YouTube and almost took Rudy Tomjanovich's eye out with the same type of punch that Gates hit Frease with.

For you guys that are talking one-game suspensions, I am sorry but I do not think that some of the Cincinnati or Xavier players will see the court for the rest of the season.

I guess there is a press conference scheduled for this afternoon in Cincinnati.

Gates will be lucky with just a suspension. He is lucky that Freese doesnt file assault charges on him. I have seen people get arrested for MUCH less than that.

That was the first thing I thought of when I saw the video of the punch.

The other bothersome thing about the post-game comments was the "Zip 'em up" theme that Xavier seems to be proud of. I'm not naive enough to think that refers to making somebody "zip their lip", it surely refers to putting the opponents into body bags.

A whileafter the game last evening, the officials revised the box score to show ejections of 3 players: Gates and Cheikh Mbodj of Cincy, and Dez Wells (#5) of Xavier. Wells hasn't received much blame, but he was the guy that starting the shoving after Holloway and Guyn were jawing in each other's face. If Wells hadn't come over and shoved Guyn, the refs might have been able to step in and calm things down before things exploded.

Jeff Goodman is a fairly good reporter/columnist and I agree with him completely that the suspension is not enough (didn't really need a column to reach that conclusion).

Mick Cronin's actions needed to be as forceful as his words.

They weren't.

Gates should have received -- at minimum - a 10-game penalty, maybe even being tossed from the team for good. Cronin talked a big game after Saturday's brawl, one that was embarrassing for all parties.

Big East or someone else (NCAA) may want to step in.

Cronin says the right things in front of the cameras and then turns around and does things exactly the way that his mentor Huggins would have. Don't be fooled by Cronin's press conference. He was Huggins chief recruiter back in the day. That and the length of these suspensions speaks far louder than anything else.

As others have said, there is now all the concrete evidence in the world to never, ever give these two carnie colleges a place on Ohio State's schedule.

Only 6 games for Gates and Mbodj and only one of those is a conference game? What a joke. At least Oregon suspended Legarette Blount for most of his season when he punched the Boise State player.

I have the feeling the Big East and/or the NCAA will tack on some more.

If X comes out and suspends Mark Lyons, Tu Holloway or others longer than six games, it would make UC or Cronin look worse.

But since someone from X was on Sunday's conference call with UC, that probably won't happen and everyone is probably on the same page (already).
