Cincinnati Bengals (Just Burrow In)

SPN makes ‘daring offseason move’ for Bengals

Not sure if it’s a smart one.

When the 2021 NFL Draft rolls around, the Cincinnati Bengals will have a great chance to land someone capable of changing the fortunes of a franchise with no winning seasons since 2015.

Armed with the fifth-overall pick, Cincinnati will have a host of instant-impact players to choose from like LSU receiver Ja’Marr Chase, Florida tight end Kyle Pitts, and possibly Oregon tackle Penei Sewell.

But could the Bengals actually trade out of that pick?

A team with a breathtaking inability to evaluate talent is going to trade down for more draft picks.

This should go well.

Old Bengals story passed on by a former Moeller coach who was hired by Mikey Boy as part of the talent evaluation team: "So we check our board and the group was excited - the guy we wanted was still there - Mike comes in and we say, Pick XYZ, we didn't think he'd still be there at #6, but he is, so let's pick him."
"No, I want someone else."
"But this is the guy we all agreed upon. We've studied film, interviewed him, scouted him in games, asked his coaches about him, asked opposing coaches about him, checked him out at the combine..."
"No, we're going with the guy I want." Mike walks out of the room and we hear, "With the sixth pick, the Cincinnati Bengals have chosen David Klinger."

Fuck Mike Brown. That bum is the reason I don't show 1/10 of the give a shit for the Bengals as I do THE Buckeyes. Unfortunately, we get his bum of a daughter whenever he leaves.

to be fair, Lipincott wasn’t exactly qualified, either, to be making NFL decisions straight from a high school gig. but he is the only man to show off a camel toe on TV.

Picked up Trey Hendrickson at DE, had 13.5 sacks last year for the Saints. Should pair well with Hubbard and improve our pass rush, much needed with Lawson gone. Also picked up a starting CB from Dallas. I like the moves on the defensive side of the ball, I would prefer to get that side addressed in FA and go offense with the first couple picks, namely OL and TE.

Winner: Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals finally parted with eight-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Geno Atkins, saving them $9.5 million in cap space. Cincinnati also made a big splash when they signed veteran offensive tackle Riley Reiff. The 23rd overall pick in the 2012 draft, the 32-year-old Reiff spent the past four years with the Vikings after playing five seasons in Detroit. Reiff, who has experience at both tackle spots, has 127 starts in 135 regular-season games. Last season, Reiff helped Dalvin Cook finish second in the NFL with 1,557 rushing yards.

Cincinnati also traded backup quarterback Ryan Finely to Houston, allowing them to move up about 30 spots at the end of the 2021 draft.

Huge fan of the Reiff pickup, that's big news and kind of the move I was hoping for. Allows us to take Sewell if he's there since Reiff is not likely the long term solution at tackle, or we can afford to take Pitts if Sewell isn't there and take a more developmental guy in the 2nd if necessary. Either way, gives us time without needing to have anyone step up and be "the guy" as a rookie.

As much as I would love to see Pitts in this offense, I’m still very much on board with drafting Sewell. If he’s taken, I wouldn’t be opposed to drafting Pitts or one of the top WR prospects and then taking someone like the Texas OT in rounds 2 or 3.

I also think Jeremy Ruckert would be an EXCELLENT fit in this offense if the opportunity presents itself next year.

For sure, I'm only advocating for Pitts if Sewell isn't there. The Dolphins might pick Sewell instead of a WR now that they got Will Fuller in FA. Fingers crossed Sewell is still there, but Pitts is so damn intriguing there. I also wouldn't be mad with either of Chase or Devonta Smith either. As you indicated, there are some OTs that I like with 2nd or 3rd round grades, and getting Reiff would allow us time to develop someone there who may not be ready to step in and start from day 1 as I think Sewell has the ability to do.
