clarity-problem with PM again

USCemper

The bicycle thief
Clarity

I hate to drive you nuts about this. I sent you several messages, including a private email. It appears that as of yesterday my Personal Messages feature is not working properly. My intended recipients are not receiving my messages. When I go to the "sent messages", it does not record my latest 6 or 7 messages, and I don't know if I can receive messages as well.

I appreciate your assistance in this matter. Thank you.

I got the email you sent about 30 minutes ago just now, but I haven't received any of your PMs either. I'm not aware of any problems with the system, but I'll look into it now.

Do me a favor and try to send me one. I'll send you one right now as well.

I'm trying to hack in a new feature as we speak, which is why everyone has probably seen some error messages come and go tonight. But that should have nothing to do with PMs.

clarity:

I don't know what the problem might be, but yet again today, I was trying to send some PMs to several posters and they were never delivered, and they are not catalogued in the "sent messages" log.

Again, I hate to drive you crazy with this and I appreciate your assistance with this matter.

Don't know what to tell you. I'm getting your PMs fine. Who are you trying to PM? Have them make sure you're not on their ignore list by design or by accident.

The PM system isn't overly complicated, and it's working seemingly everywhere else. I'm not aware of any other problems, and it is working 'sometimes' for you. I'm no great techinical mind, but if it's the same software that's been working all along, hasn't been touched, is working for everyone else (near as I can tell), and is even working for you (in both directions) with me -- then I can't wrap my head around the problem. I mean, software doesn't have mood swings, it's not going to decide some PMs are okay, others aren't.

Who *exactly* are you trying to PM? Are we certain you aren't on their ignore list?

I'm not saying I don't believe you. I *am* saying that this doesn't make a lot of sense, and that I don't have any more information now in this new thread, than I did in last night's thread on the subject, or in any of the PMs we've exchanged.

What's the status on this? I can tell that PMs you've sent recently have made it successfully to myself, BuckNutty, and at least 2 other posters. But I haven't heard anything from you.

Are you still not getting through to a specific person or persons? If so, who?

This is pretty basic, and probably NOT the problem, but are you typing the moniker/username into the recipient field for sending, or are you using the PM link found in their User profile? Are you sending to multiple users at one time?

If you mistype the username/moniker in that field the PM will appear to have gone through, but will not. Unlike other PM errors you can make, this mistake will NOT bring up an alert dialogue screen to warn of your mistake.

The system WILL tell you of the error, but it is in a small box at the top of the PM screen (not a seperate alert that opens) and it will simply say:

The following errors occurred when this message was submitted:
1. The following users were not found:
1. UUSCemper

It's easy to overlook and not what you'd be expecting. Most would assume a new alert window would open. I have done this a couple of times, only to realize it when I checked my "sent" mail and saw no record of a PM I knew I sent (or thought I'd sent). If you are using the PM link found in a users profile page, this would be almost impossible, since it fills the Recipient field for you.

If you are sending to multiple users, make sure they are seperated by ";" (Example: Clarity; USCemper; etc.) and that you are using no more than 10 names (it used to be 5 names). This could cause the same type of error reporting as described above.

Just shooting in the dark here.
