Just passing along some news. Apparently Clarity's house was struck by lightning. I'm guessing this had something to do with the latest hurricane as Clarity resides in Florida. vrbryant (his brother) was at Clarity's, and so both are without internet access for the time being. From what I'm told, internet access is only one of numerous things that they are currently without. The best guess is that they will be without service until Friday ... possibly longer. I would guess that they will make it known when they get service restored. Until that time, we will carry on as best as possible.

Good luck C and VR, hopefully loss of internet service is the worst of your troubles.

I fear for Clarity's wife

I Sang Her A Sonnet
by V. R. Bryant

I opened up my mouth and out it came:
A lovely, rhythmic song in basic meter.
Regretfully she could not do the same,
So I resigned to murder, cook and eat her.
The former task turned out to take the least
Amount of effort, but I must admit that
The contemplation of the coming feast,
Consideration of a place to sit at,
And every other thing a chef must do
To fix a meal that’s fit to meet his palate
Proved more than adequate distraction to
Forget the law and club her with a mallet.
My only wish is that my reasoning
Was on par with my choice of seasoning.

It wasn't anything related to Frances, we just had some good old Florida afternoon storms today that were heavy on the lightning.

We get the hurricane stuff over the weekend. :(

Power and phones are back. I've managed to set up a temporary AOL account, so I wanted to pop in and touch base.

I don't know when I will be back online in any reliable capacity. Damage was far worse than we realized at first. Major appliances were lost, as well as most of my A/V and computer equipment. Directv is a total loss as a couple receivers literally fried, and the dish is toast. My laptop is shot, etc. etc. To be honest, we're lucky the house didn't catch fire to boot. The lightning struck at the South end of the roof, manage to travel through the length, and come out on the North 1st floor at the phone junction box outside, which exploded and was destroyed. But it turns out we had explosions in the house too, Vince went to wash some clothes, and discovered wiring and the heavy outlet for the washer and dryer had blown up as well, scorched walls, more damage, etc.

I was literally installing the pick'em hack when this all happened. An explosion like you wouldn't believe, then fire alarms going off all over the house followed by the distinct smell of melted electronics. The worst for me was having no power (and thus no A/C) for around 3 hours. In terms of my health issues, that has set me back severely, and that's going to be another factor in terms of my availability.

Needless to say, we're having a ball, and I suspect most of you are rolling your eyes at my sob story by now, lol. We do figure to miss the game, but I'm holding out hope. Someone is coming out to look at the DSS equipment tomorrow, but it seems like everything is going to have to be replaced, including the wiring.

When I get back online, I'll wrap up the pick'em hack, and we'll figure out how to work in people's scores then.

Hope you Miami through Tampa types are prepared for the storm. It goes without saying I hope we don't see much of a hit from it. With an already damaged roof, I'd be concerned about our problems snowballing. But that's life, a big slice of shit pie.

Riders on the Storm

Chuck in Jacksonville, FL here...

So long as we don't lose power, I'm not too worried. Besides, it ain't gonna hit until after the game, so I'll be able to see the game at BW-3's.

I made my preparations...

1. Fill bathtub with water for toilet.
2. Beer.
3. Junk food.
4. If we do lose power, I'll get in the car and drive until I find an air-conditioned bar.

Florida is frikin' hot. A/C is the only way that people down here survive.
