SEC Network analyst: Clemson and OSU would beat LSU right now

SEC Network analyst Peter Burns put a take out on Twitter that some people are definitely starting to buy into after LSU’s defensive performance yesterday.

While Burns says that there is no doubt LSU deserves to be No. 1 in the College Football playoff due to its resume of four top-10 wins and dynamic offense, he says that the defense of the Tigers is a liability and that he’d take Clemson or Ohio State over them right now.

“We fought, we had a 21-point victory,” LSU head coach Ed Orgeron said after the game to ESPN’s Holly Rowe. “I’m so ectatic and happy for our football team. We’ve got to get better on defense. There’s things we’ve got to get better at, but overall, a great win for our team.”

As far as Ohio State goes, it hasn’t played in a competitive game all season. Its “closest” margin of victory was 24 points over Michigan State on Oct. 5. Wisconsin kept it close in Columbus for one half, as Ohio State led 10-7 in the beginning of the third quarter, but the Buckeyes scored the game’s final 28 points to win 38-7. The Buckeyes have played Maryland and Rutgers the past two games, and with both being blowouts, much of the first team didn’t take a snap against Maryland in the second half. Against Rutgers yesterday, notable players on the first team played just one series into the second half.

The Buckeyes have only allowed more than 20 points two times. Once in their season opener against FAU and another time yesterday against Rutgers, with the Scarlet Knights scoring twice after the starting defense of the Buckeyes was long out of the game.
