Clemson Tigers (official thread)

Clemson to play FCS opponent Citadel for Tigers’ home opener

Clemson will start its home season against Citadel on Sept. 12, filling the lone non-conference spot on its COVID-19 revamped schedule.

The Tigers were originally scheduled to face Citadel on Nov. 14 before the global pandemic affected the Atlantic Coast Conference schedule.

The ACC adopted a 10-game conference schedule with one non-conference opponent. Clemson was set to face Akron, Notre Dame and state rival South Carolina along with Citadel as its non-conference foes on its old 12-game schedule.

Just sayin': Playing a FCS school like Citadel is stupid as it is a no win situation. You could expose your team needlessly to the virus (i.e. you can't be 100% sure they will be virus free), you beat them (so what?) you were supposed to, and/or you lose to them (i.e. scUM vs Appalachian State) you could screw your CPF chances.

That might be a good thing for Justin Fields, since the Heisman voting usually has regional bias. The 2 Clemson players could easily split the 1st place Heisman votes in the ACC region of the country....:gagnam:

Clemson Tigers QB Trevor Lawrence hints at staying for senior season rather than opting for NFL draft

Clemson Tigers quarterback Trevor Lawrence is leaving the door open about his football future despite previously saying he planned on heading to the NFL after this, his junior season.

The 6-foot-6 Lawrence, considered the likely No. 1 pick in next spring's NFL draft, said he hasn't ruled out returning to Clemson for another year instead of going pro.

"My mindset has been that I'm going to move on," Lawrence said Tuesday. "But who knows? There's a lot of things that could happen."

Lawrence is scheduled to graduate with a bachelor's degree in marketing in December.

"No matter where I go -- whether that's across the country or whether it's close to home, whether I stay another year -- we'll work it out," Lawrence said.

He'll have graduated, he's engaged (and probably soon to be married), he has nothing more to prove in college, and he won't pass on a guaranteed $40M. He'll be in the 2021 NFL draft.
