Cleveland Browns (2012 season)

Ehh, I wouldn't go that far. I agree with Buckeneye. We need a few more impact players, a great coach, and MAYBE we can talk about Wildcard.

I don't think we need to talk about Wild Card. I think we are a great coach and a few players away from winning the AFC North next year.

The Browns are already even with the Bungles (yes I know they made the playoffs this year). The Steelers and Ravens are old and haven't reloaded in the draft like they usually do. Give the Browns a pass rush end, a #2 CB, a FS, and a competent OC, and the defense alone could win the North.

No Bull in a China shop. All I said is, don't overlook Trestman. You (and others) are the one freaking out. .

I'm not 'freaking out' at all. I welcome bringing the guy in. I'd be happy interviewing proven coaches from just about any level.

edit: Reading that resume. Very impressive. I'd bring him in for an interview immediately.

Let's not forget the AFC fucking sucks outside of New England and Denver.

You don't have to be spectacular, just be solid enough to win the games you should and go 3-3 in the division and that's the playoffs right there at 9-7 or so.

This

Trestman spends his time in the off-season preparing young college quarterbacks as seen with Jason Campbell, Jay Cutler, Jimmy Clausen, and recently Tim Tebow, for the NFL Combine. He also successfully mentored NFL quarterbacks such as Bernie Kosar, Steve Young and Rich Gannon and spent time as a consultant to the New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton during the 2007 season.

And he got Tebow drafted in the first freaking round?!? Hire this guy NOW.

Add to that... and this is of small consequence obviously, but, he's already worked with Weeden and as such has a sense of what he'd have there. In addition, he's at least somewhat a WCO guy, so, you wouldn't be looking at a complete rip down of the roster, theoretically. (I'm not sure if that's good or bad, or what). Rememeber, most of these changes are occurring due to a change in ownership, not because the team isn't trending in the right direction, plus I don't think there's a "win now" mentality, necessarily (as opposed to "more improvement" now). Point is, there's probably a lessor chance that he'd come in and pull a Mangini and get every ex-Alouette available. (though, who the heck knows, there might be a CFL'er or 2 worth grabbing. lol)

"Man has to know his limitations" Think he finally realized he is not HC material.

No. I think part of the deal for him to come back to NE was that he had to stick around for a few years. He'll probably wait and take the Jets job when Belichick retires.

To be fair, he's still a young man. I'd venture what he's realized is that he has a lot of skill sets that need to be developed.

I would not be unhappy with a Trestman hire. He has a brilliant offensive mind and has past ties to the Browns so he understands what Cleveland fans are going through. Yes, we might be able to do better but there are a lot worse possibilities out there. He is being interviewed by Chicago today also so the Browns are not the only ones who think he might be the answer.

Agreed! IF that is the case and he is developing the necessary skill sets to be come an efficient and successful HC, that is a very mature and positive step in the right direction.

I just hope the Browns make the best hire for the franchise. Anyone they hire short of Cowher or Gruden, will come with much scrutiny.

Personally, I think management is being very picky about who they choose as the next HC. They are looking for that HC that WANTS to coach the Browns, not someone coming in to collect a paycheck.
