So, last night we hire whats-his-name to be the HC. Plus, next month we all probably get to watch [name redacted] get selected to the hall of fame. Great time to be a clowns fan...

Yep, just to add to this factory of greatness, LeBron will win a title and Moddell will make the HOF on the sympathy vote...all in the same year! Who let the dogs out! Woof, woof, woof woof....

Cont me as, well, not jumping for joy.

But, someone please explain to me who the other viable candidates were. As some of you may have noticed, I was the one talking up Trestman's resume because in a way, I thought he might have the best one of the people that were actually reasonable.

Gruden, Cowher, Dungy aren't going anywhere. Not options. Chip Kelly was probably never going to leave Oregon. Wisenhunt (who was probably the other choice) is a proven loser. There was no interest in Andy Reid, for whatever reason, Lovie Smith but, that wasn't going to happen.... so, you're left with the afforementioned retread, then guys like Trestman, Zimmer, and obviously Chudzinski.

Now, as much as I get this love for self hate and wallowing in failure, this at least wasn't a situation where we went after whatever the 2010's version of Bill Walsh is, and the guy said, "Nah I'm gonna take my talents to South Beach, Cleveland sucks" (Unless that's what happened with Trestman, but, whatever, Browns nation would still be Bitchin). And, possilby, being a Toledo guy, if this goes well, he won't do that in the future. Get Norv Turner, it looks better. Get a good Defensive guy, it looks even more awesomely better. Build a stable competent organization, and he'll do reasonably well. Do what Randy Lerner did for however long and Vince Lombardi would fail. Its as simple as that.

The other option, or well, at least the other guy I can think of that got a second interview was Wisenhunt... uh, yeah, I'll take Chud.

Few million bucks in my account for being an incompetent boob/miserable failure? I think I could live with that.

Yeah, I was more just thinking that more or less most of the criticisms of him (like having no HC experience and not knowing what he is doing, at all, ever) will still apply to the guy they hired, at least until he proves otherwise.

The Browns were 8th in total offense in 2007 when Chud was OC. That was with DA and Braylon catching/dropping passes.

Not a glamor pick but the guy definitely has a lot more offensive cred than Shurmur. If we stick with the 4-3 I am encouraged.

What can I say....I'm a glass is half-full kinda guy.

That may be the key...if they start blowing up the defense schematically and switch to a 3-4 it could take years to even that out in personnel...by then it will be too late. Hopefully he won't go Mangini and start trading for scrubs from his old team.
