Cleveland Browns (Finally drafting Buckeyes)

We GAVE him away but at least everyone can move on.. and we have $8M (along w addl cap space) to go get another WR

I hope he does well... came to us when everyone else felt the Browns had the clap... I'm thankful for that... and he made great commercials...

Browns at Panthers week one.

Oddly enough, I’m about a half a mile from the Panthers’ Bank of America Stadium as I’m hearing this news today.

I’m not a Browns fan. And based on most of the decisions made by their management in the past 20 years, I’m grateful not to be one.

Now Mayfield and Darnold, who competed with each other to become the No. 1 pick in 2018, will compete again in training camp to vie for the right to be the Panthers' starter this season, a league source told Schefter.
If Mayfield wins the job, his first starting assignment will be against the Browns, who are scheduled to visit Carolina in Week 1.

I don't know what the right move would have been here. Don't pick up the option? 18M seemed like a no brainer after the 2020 season. I guess they could have stuck with him for 1 more year, but they are just wasting time if they know he isn't the guy. Maybe you go to the playoffs and maybe you win a game, but Baker isn't going to carry you to the Super Bowl on his back. It's debatable, but it isn't every year that a top 5 QB is available to trade so they decided they would rather go with a proven QB in his prime than wait a year and try to find someone to replace Baker. Who knows which QB's would be on the market next year. I'm sure Green Bay will ask for a similar package for Aaron Rodgers corpse next spring. We can grade the Watson trade in 3-5 years to see how it pans out.

As I read in an article yesterday Baker ended up being what many (including me) thought he was before the draft- Too small, too slow, and too cocky. Things that motivated teammates at Oklahoma don't work with professional athletes and he never made enough plays to earn respect from his teammates. I wasn't really sure what direction to go in the draft that year, but my educated guess was to see if they could trade back a few picks then take Josh Allen. That being said I didn't think Watson or Mahomes would be good pros so it isn't like I know what I'm talking about. For Baker's sake I hope this humbled him a little. The only way dude has a future in the NFL is if he becomes a guy that you want in your locker room rather than a drama grenade.

Baker Mayfield trade grades: Panthers better off at QB, Browns put a bow on mismanaged situation

Which side won the Mayfield trade, however? Here's how we'd grade the deal:

Browns: D

Panthers: A-

Entire article: https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...s-qb-headed-to-carolina-for-conditional-pick/

I think CBS Sports was overly generous in giving the Browns that high of grade....
The national media love for Baker Mayfield is hilarious.

He sucks. Good riddance.
