Cleveland Indians (2011 Season)

Yeah, another night another housing. I'm already looking towards the off season because they're just unbearable to watch anymore.

On another note, rumors abound the there may be mutual interest between Shapiro and the Cubs, re: their GM job. I'm actually pretty curious what he would do with a decent payroll to work with.

All I have to say about Shapiro

Cliff Lee July 29, 2009: Traded by the Cleveland Indians with Ben Francisco to the Philadelphia Phillies for Jason Knapp (minors), Carlos Carrasco, Jason Donald and Lou Marson.

CC Sabathia July 7, 2008: Traded by the Cleveland Indians to the Milwaukee Brewers for a player to be named later, Rob Bryson (minors), Zach Jackson and Matt LaPorta. The Milwaukee Brewers sent Michael Brantley (October 3, 2008) to the Cleveland Indians to complete the trade.

2 cy young pitchers..........1 marginal productive player (Brantley.....) in return

Well, it was either that or cough up $280 million to keep them both.

Pretty much. I don't get the teeth gnashing over those trades. Ideally, you'd like to get more, but, bottom line, the market wasn't great when those trades were made and they got what they could get.

Unfortunately, LaBusta has turned out to be an AAAA guy, but at the time, IIRC, he was a top-10 prospect in MLB. When Cliff was traded, yeah he was coming off of a Cy Young season, but he wasn't exactly lighting things up that summer. It's not like keeping him for 2010 would have done anything for a bad Indians team, or improved his value. I remember reading all the rumors, and there just wasn't a lot of teams willing to part with top prospects. It shows the hit-or-miss nature of those kinds of trades. Last year, everybody was bemoaning the Victor trade, too...but now it appears we have a legit top-2 starter from that and nobody is complaining.

Also remember that Shapiro swindled the Dodgers out of Carlos Santana for Casey friggin' Blake during that period. Not to mention stealing AsCab and Choo for Ben Broussard. Yeah, Carlos has been up and down this year, but you can see that he has the abilities to be a star...just need to iron out the rough edges as he's still young.

1. Cleveland Indians
? Decrease in attendance: 56.08 percent
? 2000 W-L record: 91-71 (finished 1st in AL Central)
? 2010 W-L record: 69-93 (finished 4th in AL Central)
? League championships last decade: none
More on the Indians? decline
Not surprising because...
1. Cleveland will always be a Browns town first.
2. Even all the success they had from '94-'01 ultimately had little payoff.
3. Every star player that has come through this organization has left or been traded.
4. They have a crap product right now compared to where they were a decade ago.

pretty selective dats to maximize the % difference. if you start the run a year sooner the gap isn't as large. the bottom line is that the 90's were a perfect storm. the cavs stunk, the browns were gone. cleveland had some good young guys and could afford to shell out cash for some good FA's, and the FA market wasn't totally exploded yet due to the yankees ruining the sport.

Ubaldo ends the year with a 5.11 ERA while wearing an Indians uni (was 4.46 with Colorado).........think it's time to stop blaming Coors Field for his awfulness
Cleveland is noted for its thin air:wink:

Looks like we might be losing Sandy to the White Sox. I would hate to see him go.
