Machado is a FA after this coming season, and there is 0.0 chance the Tribe would be able to re-up him. If they give up a decent haul for him, they're going all in on this season.

Ok, then I could be back on board with excitement.

It won't happen.
Seems like a longshot, at best; but I never thought they'd go get somebody like EE, either.

Lol if the Os would actually trade Machado for Danny Salazar.
Salazar would be a piece. I read somewhere (forget where) that the O's would also likely ask for a package of prospects centered around Triston McKenzie. Greg Allen was another name I heard, let him go if it helps.

I'm not really sure how I feel about that. Machado is nothing more than a one year rental, and is coming off of a so-so year (.259/.310/.471). He is still only 25, and playing on a legit contender could bring a big year out of him. If this team wants to contend, they need another big bat, point blank. Machado would probably be just that. Losing Santana and Bruce was a blow. Alonso is probably a reasonable analog of Santana. But the OF needs help. Both Chis and Brantley have been plagued by injuries, so I don't know that you can count on them all that much.

Jettisoning Salazar is no big deal to me. He's so wildly inconsistent, you can never count on him for sustained periods. And I don't think he's gonna get much better...he kinda is what he is at this point. I wouldn't be crazy about letting McKenzie go because he looks like he could be a good one. On the other hand, he probably won't reach the bigs until sometime in 2019, and there's a chance that their championship window could be closing after this season.

He's been getting phased out for a while, first the cursive "I" hats then the block "C". Atlanta got rid of their Chief years ago. And yet...

One of my three favorite tribe players of my era...

- Julio Franco
- Omar Vizquel
- Jim Thome

Meant to post about this last week but got busy... I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to attend a pretty good number of games in the 90's (especially since I didn't live in NEO at the time and at least an hour drive... ) At any rate 90% of those games were in the same seats, upper deck, third base side... upper box, but in whatever the second tier was... either way it wasn't a place where foul balls made it up to you. Occasionally one would sneak up into the first rows a couple sections nearer to home plate. My recollection is somewhat limited on year, but late 90's - in an otherwise unremarkable regular season game against the Angles, Troy Percival is throwing 100 MPH fastballs at Thome, and he's late on one but gets a piece with a full upper cut swing and this thing just rockets over our heads about ten rows behind us. Everyone up there had season tickets, a lot from the beginning and it was this kind of realization that there was a ridiculous amount of power arrayed on the mound and the plate. That's the only time that happened.

When Thome was really rolling, he'd hit those opposite way bombs to left center... and when he connected on those, it was one of those sounds that you didn't need to see if it was going out but where it landed. I remember one where he hit it to center and everyone immediately cheered and it landed in the picnic area/park that was center at the time and hit some piece of HVAC out (I guess that's what it was) there that made this clang over the crowd, and everyone stopped cheering for a split second, then started again when the realized the building wasn't falling down. Thome was a noisy player. Pretty nice career for a guy who spend most of his time protecting Albert Belle, Matt Williams, Juan Gonzales, Manny Ramirez, etc.
