So far we have:

Cutting Sizemore and his 45 games a season

Keeping Carmona and pairing him with Derek Lowe, meaning we lead the nation in starters who can go 9-16 with an ERA of 5.50 in 185 innings.

On the plus side - my Braves are still on the hook for 10 of Lowe's 15 million. :(

The Pirates have held that crown for almost 20 years, and some of those they couldn't muster two guys with 9 wins.

Can we somehow work "there's always next year" into the title?

Oh and I saw from the 2011 Tribe thread about Cabrera, you keep him for as long as you can, and build this team around that guy.

Indians may kick tires on Andruw Jones

Views9673Comments19

09:40 AM ET 11.13 | The Indians may check out Andruw Jones, who batted .247 with 13 homers and 33 RBI for the Yankees last season. He will be 35 next April and is no longer an All-Star. But if you dig deeper into his numbers, there is value. He hit those 13 homers in 190 at-bats, compiling a strong .851 OPS. Most of all, he actually hits left-handers -- .286 (.923 OPS). He was .172 against righties, but the Indians are loaded with left-handed hitting outfielders.

If this is true, the free agency philosophy hasn't changed at all from Shapiro. Aging retreads. :smash:

Picking up Carmona's option at 7 mil isn't that bad. Similar type pitchers would have cost just as much in free agency.

On Lowe, he had similar peripherals in 2011 to 2010 where he won 16 games. 5 million for an innings eating 5th starter isn't bad when there is potential for Lowe to win 12 to 15 games.

Tony Lastoria of IPI is suggesting the Indians should consider signing Derek Lee. He is a quality defensive first baseman with pop in his bat and would be a good leader for a young team. We need to keep Santana behind the dish and LaPorta has turned out to be a AAAA player, rakes in AAA and is bad at the MLB level. Lastoria thinks Lee could be a Eddie Murry type sign for this team. I actually agree and think it's a decent idea and makes sense.

The Tribe needs to get a left fielder. With Grady gone, Brantley can move to CF.

Don't disagree. But, we really have to hope we get "decent fausto" and not "gascan/mental midget fausto".

Murray had Thome, Manny, Belle, Baerga, Omar, etc. around him. Lee wouldn't have that luxury. I don't know about Carlos really, but I'm pretty sure his long term position is 1B, so might as well let him learn there.

I don't think the FO views him as a 1B. His value is at catcher. I'm sure if we need more offense at 1B he'll play there since it seems we have a little depth at catcher. We also have Chun Chen in the minors that has a great bat that could make things interesting.

only way i want sizemore back is if he takes a one year deal for way less money which is what this report seems to be indicating

According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, the Indians and Grady Sizemore are having "serious discussions" about a one-year contract.

One source pegs the chances of a reunion at "70-30" while another tells Rosenthal that it's "very likely." The Indians declined Sizemore's $9 million club option late last month, so they would presumably attempt to work out a deal for lesser salary. The 29-year-old is drawing plenty of interest around the league, but it might be the best career move to stick with the organization (and perhaps more importantly, the medical staff) that knows him best and attempt to hit the free agent market again next offseason.
