It’s unpopular, but if they can get a good haul for him, trade him. There is 0% chance they can re-sign him. The sooner you deal him, the more they can likely get.
You are right unfortunately. They didnt make the playoffs with him when they were supposedly in their championship window. They have been buyers for 4 straight years, and now it is time to sell Lindor at the top of the market. They should have sold on Kluber last offseason and now they are overpaying on an aging star coming off of injury.

The writing was on the wall when he turned down that big extension. That was basically him saying "you can't afford me."

He's a very likeable player, but he has one foot out the door. Sell high.

The Indians are really going to be searching the scrap heap for relief pitchers come Spring training time with the outright release of Cody Anderson, A.J. Cole, Tyler Olson, and Dan Otero from their bullpen along with Tyler Clippard being a free-agent.

How fast bullpens fall apart, seems like just yesterday it was arguably our strength. Last year was fantastically mediocre, this year is lining up to be awful.

I don't disagree with this, but I don't think its going to happen over the winter. Everyone knows intellectually the Indians over-ask for their guys, so, when there's no ticking clock, they don't want to give up their assets. So, unless there's some 3 team deal they want where the Indians get back stuff they want from both, its probably more like a deadline deal... if it gets to next winter, then maybe they do it in the offseason.

Oh, I don't expect them to do it...I just think they should. Yeah, they were superficially competitive this past season, and maybe could be again in 2020 if they avoid the injury bug that leveled them this year, but in the grand scheme of things, big picture, this team is nowhere near the Astros, Yankees, Dodgers, etc. Kluber's getting older and it seems doubtful he'll be the guy he was 2 years ago again. Who knows what to expect from Cookie. JRam is schizophrenic. Clevinger is great, but has proven injury-prone. I just don't see how this team, as currently constructed, is anything more than an 85-90 win team, at best. Is that worth holding on to Lindor as he plays out his contract then heads to New York, LA or Chicago? Do you wait til 2021 and trade him for some team's 4th, 6th and 10th best prospect because he's in his contract year, or do you deal him now to somebody trying to win next year for a much better haul, including premium prospects? I say the latter. But, I'm just some asshole on the internet.

If they want to start compiling assets for another run 3-5 years down the line, Lindor would be a prime piece for it. But that's logical baseball thinking. It would obviously be a terrible pr move and most fans would be furious. Its a catch-22...trade him now to maximize the return and piss off the fans; or wait until his contract year to trade him, get a fraction of the return and don't piss off the fans while floating along at the barely in postseason contention level while drawing ~20K a game.

I have heard other people say that the Indians should hold onto him for as long as possible. The problem with that is the longer they held on to him his value decreases. If they hold onto him through next season, teams are going to know that they are going to have trade him sooner or later so his value keeps going down.

Also, the one thing that bothers me about Lindor is that he keeps on smiling and joking with other players and they really do not reciprocate. I have never seen a professional baseball player do as much smiling and joking around during a game. I know that he is Mr. Smile but the borders on the ridiculous.

Eh, I think he loves the game. To me, that's one of his most endearing qualities. He's such a likable player. But, I know he has one foot out the door and is gone soon, so I find it hard to truly get invested in him as a fan. I don't blame him, mind you. He's going to get an enormous contract from somebody, and he deserves to...it just won't be Cleveland, which is a damn shame.

Being in a bad division gives them a pretty good shot at getting into the playoffs still, as currently constructed. Though even if they do make it, them beating the Astros or Yankees probably is not likely.

At this point you almost have to throw in the towel and try for building another 2016 caliber team in 3-5 years. Or decide to actually splurge and go all in for the next year or two, which is unlikely.....then that likely results in at least half a decade of shit baseball after.

They just promoted a guy named Sky. Seriously. His name is Sky. Hoping it is a nickname otherwise my parents shorted me on having a cooler first name.
