I don't feel too bad with McCown for now. He was a third round pick and I've seen promise. I think a lot is going to depend on his progress at the end of the year, but it has become evident that the new model for a rookie QB is in Pittsburgh...get the line and running game going, then get a QB as the final piece.

I think whomever is named the coach will definately give us better insight into the pick.......saban and we'll prob take a db or Lb, weiss and prob on offensive side of ball...whatever we take let's just hope they can play in a majority of the games and be somewhat useful

I'm not even concerned with a draft choice right now. We need to get a GOOD Head Coach and staff in place, with a GOOD front-office man, and let them do what they are paid to do. There are a few pieces in place, but this team needs a lot of work to get competative. Though you look how quickly teams like New England and Carolina have done it in recent seasons with the right people, there is reason to be optimistic... if we get the right people in there.:wink2:

Charlie Weis would have been a great pick as coach, dammit....I still think Tom Moore, the Colts OC would be damn good. Another would be Gary Kubiak, Shanahan's OC. I don't want another college coach. Fuck that.

I have been reading about a kid named D'Brickashaw Ferguson, an OT out of Virginia. He's supposed to be one of the quickest, most agile OT's to come out in a long time. I think this guy may be worth looking into also. You gotta love the name.

McCown's not the answer. I think he's a legitimate backup, but that's it. Even though he put up huge numbers at La Tech, he has very average recognition skills and constantly threw into coverage. I remember reading that his college coaches actually didn't trust him all that much because he was always throwing stupid passes. We don't need another Couch on our hands. The best OL's in the world won't help this kid.

I beg to differ. The best OL in the world can make any QB win, especially if you have above average RB's. Look at Trent Dilfer with the Ravens. IMO if the Browns could get 2-3 good OL this year along with Faine, Tucker, and maybe Verba (at Guard) their line could be much better next year. If they got the Broncos OC like someone mentioned earlier the running game could be good next year.
If there isn't a Gallary (sp) type OT in the draft they should trade down as far as they can to still get the best LT in the draft. I think a line of 1st Round Pick, Verba, Faine, 2nd round pick, Tucker would be much better next year.

Ron Wolfe was brought in as a consultant to specifically help cleveland draft a qb. his guy was mccown. of course davis wouldnt listen to anything else he had to say and wolfe quit shortly thereafter.

when cleveland made the playoffs 3 years ago it was because the OL actually gelled and green ran well for 7 games. and coincidentally couch looked quite good.

McCown was drafted with the expectation that he'll get 2-3 years to develop. He may turn out well, who knows..I'm just saying from what I've seen of him in college, reading his scouting reports, and so far in the NFL (which I really can't gage yet) , I don't see a constistent starter here.

If Clev has a top 3 pick and both Rodgers and Leinart are there, what's wrong with drafting one of them? Big time program..used to pressure...smart as hell..both come from QB gurus with long histories of producing NFL QB's. If both come out this year it may be worth it to draft one.

If not, like I said, Ferguson, Ngata, or Johnson would be great picks.

If the Browns don't have a better OL it won't matter who the QB is.
