Greg Schiano (HC Rutgers Scarlet Knights)

I'd have to disagree - you see what dude did at Rutgers?....RUTGERS?!
He had one good year at Rutgers in 2006. In 2005 he gave Illinois one of Ron Zooks two wins that year. Of his seven wins that year six were against teams with losing records. 2007 was not much better. All this in the Big East after Miami and Virginia Tech left.

He was able to make Rutgers average. After that 2006 year he had a couple 8-5 and 9-4 seasons.

Schiano is personally responsible for getting Rutgers into the big ten if you think about it
The television market of New York is responsible for getting Rutgers into the B1G. Expansion is not about bringing the best teams into the conference. It is about bringing TV revenue into the conference.

Look, I am not bashing him as a coach. He is a great defensive coordinator, but college football is littered with coordinators that are not meant to be head coaches at the top level.

You realize he did all that at Rutgers right? And that no one has done that at Rutgers.

I think you fall into the trap of what a 'good year' is....as an OSU fan, we are very fortunate and think a good year is 10+ wins. Rutgers is not in the same ballpark - a bowl eligible season is a good year.

Rutgers didn't have 8 wins since 1979 - Schiano did it 4 years in a row.....there's no getting around that, he did things that program had never done before and hasn't done since. No if's, and's, or but's about it......he's a very good coach.

Exactly... success is defined much differently anywhere you go in college football. Success to us is 10+ wins and to beat our rivals.

At Rutgers shit being above 500% is considered outstanding and not only did Greg do that but he also had a few nice wins mixed in there as well over some quality teams. Given the resources at a major program Greg could put together a fine program. Not as good as UFM most likely but again there aren't many coaches of Urbans Quality walking around

If Schiano does leave I would hope maybe Urban looks from within for the next DC. I don't know how much longer we can keep a guy like Larry Johnson just as a D Line coach. A big team will likely come calling for him to be their DC, no doubt. Need to show him value early. Guys like Tony Alford, LJ, and Coombs aren't likely to sit around waiting.

I do believe that Schiano would be a great head coach as he once was I really hope he comes back next year to run things on defense. Only reason I say that is that we may lose Fickell and if Fickell takes Coombs with him we would need all the staffing consistency that we can get our hands on. Besides if they both leave it would be ONLY schianos show on defense and he would have full control, and then from there he can wait for a better job then USF to open at the end of next year.

Well shoot we may be losing Schiano/Fick/Coombs in one off season so we will have no choice but to go get a DC from outside the staff. If that does happen and we lose that trio I really think Charlie Strong will be our next DC.

No offense bro but I don't see Charlie going from Texas to a DC position. A lot of people know how picky the boosters are at Texas and that they really weren't fond of his hiring from day 1. I would love to have him but I just don't see it being plausible. It's not like he's going to get better offers after a year as a DC again.

that may be SERE but Schiano went from the Tampa Bucks to the Buckeyes lol so anythings possible. IMO Charlie while he didn't have the full support of Texas had every opportunity to convince them that he was the right guy for the job. His record is what got him fired and I don't see how he gets any big coaching job in the future. IMO, Charlie will need to prove himself all over again and thats too bad.

OhioState001- There's no way that's true as Urban goes after peoples coaches and recruits all the time and that'd hypocritical of him to do so. I'm not saying you're wrong but I just doubt thats the case.

Either way I was just throwing that name out there because Urban will know what he gets with Charlie, but if we really lose 2 or even 3 of the defensive staff the next Defensive Coordinator hire will need to be a splash. Knowing Urban and how this is Ohio State I have no doubt whoever is manning the DC spot next will be name brand that everyone knows.
