Tim Beck (HC Coastal Carolina)

Let's all try to remember that we have lots of young recruits who have relations with different people on the coaching staff, including Beck.

It isn't at all fair to be clamoring for Beck's head because of one disappointing night.

Let's also remember that those of us who think it is time he moved on are not worried about one night. It's much more than that.

That doesn't make any sense.

So things sucked somewhere else so now, since we struggled last night to block people, receivers couldn't get open and special teams had disaster, fire this guy?

The team is young, the edge of our line is young, our receivers are young. This kind of thing happens. The most glaring concern for me is that our receivers seem average, which I didn't expect. But I don't know if that is just youth or if it is talent and coaching.

1) Beck had zero balls last year to tell Urban, as the QB coach, "This is our guy, and this is how we should handle it as the QB specialist". Now, Urban could have very well said 'hell no' but at least you would see Beck, the QB coach, going down in flames after last years backfield cluster fuck.

2) Beck is supposed to be making JT better. He hasn't progressed much from his freshman year. Nor did you see any progression from Cardale last season.

3) Beck is supposed to be advising Warriner on what he sees going on with his QB during the game and how to adjust the plays to right the ship. It doesn't seem like that is being done.

Unless Urban and Ed are tell Beck to shut up and go away, Beck's approach is coming off as quiet and timid. Beck may be a hell of a WR coach, but a QB guru he is not.

I definitely agree recruiting plays a probably a little to big a roll in Urban's thought process on Assistants but at some point if there is an issue you have to correct it no matter how ugly it might get.... is getting rid of Beck worth the POSSIBILITY of losing Jones in '18. I don't know, but Urban might have to find out.

The problem is that if we fire Beck we have to find someone who is actually better. Beck didn't have a stellar track record before he got hired yet here he is. Maybe Urban wasn't convinced that there was anyone who was going to be better than Beck? At the end of the day we've lost two games with him. the MSU game was play calling no doubt but I don't think the PSU one was.

Things will be interesting once Barrett leaves though. That will be telling

No most of the up and coming QB coaches wanted to be sole OC and be paid north of $1M a year. Urban's insistence on CO-OCs and their by not giving them control or the cash they want really limit your pool of coaching talent.

Honestly Beck felt like a lazy hire to try to keep Warriner around longer because they had history.

It is time for Beck to go. It was not all on him, but he is a net negative. JT has looked worse than he did 2 years ago. Warriner needs to go back to focusing on just the Oline and give the play calling duties to someone else. My entire family was calling out what play we were running based on down and formation last night.. We were extremely predictable.

Agree with #1 if he had Schiano's cache we might have made the playoffs.

No offense but I feel like every hour it has to get repeated that Warriner is no longer the coach of the O-Line and hasn't been all year. That is Greg Studrawas job. We would essentially have to unjustly fire Studrawa or demote him to TE coach only.

He does, TEs. Early this year (winter I believe), they brought in Greg Studrawa from LSU to coach the line. Allowed to Warriner to take on the TEs, which should be a lightweight duty IMO, and also play call. Having your line coach in the box didn't make sense, and having Beck up there alone didn't seem like a move Urban was happy with.

I don't think you even have to wait until Barrett leaves. 2015 was all the proof you needed to know Beck isn't OC/QB coach material. Beck had a first round running back that's on pace to set a rookie record, a first round OT, a QB that broke several B1G records as a freshman, another QB with tools even first round NFL QBs would be jealous of and who lead the team to a miraculous three game stretch, a QB turned WR that's actually doing extremely well in the league, a second round WR that's on pace to set a rookie record, and another WR who, while undrafted, earned himself a spot and is doing pretty well for himself. All those tools yet he still found a way to fuck it all up. Hell even Tressel never fucked up an offense this badly when he had this kind of talent.

Meyer changed the offense early in 2015 because he was concerned that the offense driven through QB runs was too much damage on QBs. Then, halfway through the season, when things were a mess and JT seemed a better option and clearly better suited to that type of offense, he switched back. Then, mix in QB controversy and less reps for the "starter", and yeah, there's some loss in continuity when your OC leaves. I can see why 2015 would be a struggle regardless of Beck.

Urban has no business or experience running the defense.

Ed and Tim are the underlings in the offensive staff. That's Urban's baby which is why the same flaws persist no matter what the personnel or qb, other than one Barrett game across 3 seasons and one improbable playoff run for an OC that actually earned Meyers trust (after 2.5 years of sputtering offense that drew major ire from OSU fans )
