Conley was on staff at BN (now BSB)...now at ESPN

Gotta give credit where it is due. Bucknuts is announcing that Bill Conley has joined their staff. I am sure this is very much a part time gig, but certainly a tough to beat inside source.

Here were some of the tidbits Conley shared in the 80-minute Chat:

* That decisions to offer players by the OSU staff are routinely made through a consensus of the coach assigned to a recruit's area, his potential position coach, the recruiting coordinator, the respective coordinator and the head coach. It takes a majority vote for the staff to convey an offer.

Conley cited one instance of <!--Default For Cincinnati is to ignore-->Cincinnati <!--Default For Wyoming is to ignore-->Wyoming RB <!--Default For DeShawn Wynn is to ignore-->DeShawn Wynn, now at <!--Default For Florida is to ignore-->Florida, as a player he personally liked, but was unable to get a majority vote for.

* He admitted there have been a number of "silent verbal commitments" made through the years, most of them done so players could take their full allotment of visits. Some of the notables would include <!--Default For Orlando Pace is to ignore-->Orlando Pace, <!--Default For Andy Katzenmoyer is to ignore-->Andy Katzenmoyer and several members of the current team, including signees from this past year.

* When asked about players verbaling without an offer (a la <!--Default For Kenyon Buford is to ignore-->Kenyon Buford two years ago), he said, "self hype is a problem." He cited players publicizing incorrect stats about themselves as well.

* When asked what went wrong with the recruitment of <!--Default For Toledo is to ignore-->Toledo Rogers WR <!--Default For Fred Davis is to ignore-->Fred Davis, Conley replied, "Only <!--Default For USC is to ignore-->USC knows the answer to that."

* When asked about OSU’s struggles on offense, Conley believed it was beyond play calling, personnel or scheme and noted a “philosophy” perhaps that accentuates special teams and defense.

* Finally, Conley confirmed that a member of the OSU support staff monitors the Internet for news reports on key prospects as well as key opponents.

From the local radio station that he has aligned himself with (610 is hypercritical of Coach Tressel) to the comments that he makes during his chats on Bucknuts.

It sure seems that he takes every opportunity to take shots at the program and to be critical. He has now said that he thinks that Javon Ringer's injury may have hurt his recruitment to OSU. I think that he just seems bitter about the whole thing and is now using his stature to come out and talk negatively about the team and the staff.

It's a little different when an idiot like me makes comments about the O line coaching and technique and, blah, blah, blah. When a guy like Conley says these things, it comes off as some real sour grapes, IMO.

I think it's clear that Conley has a problem with Tressel. During every one of his chats and articles you can find little digs he makes at him. When people over at Bucknuts tried to bring it to his attention, mentioning that it was in poor taste, big bad Stevie locked the thread. Apparently Conley, and others, truly are beyond reproach.

It is interesting to me that Tressel has let go two coaches, Kennedy and Conley, who had national reputations as being among the very best at their specialties (S&C and recruiting, respectively). I have to assume personality conflicts come into play. It concerns me, though. Talents of this magnitude are difficult to replace.

He takes umbrage at that remark, and you can rest assured you will be brutally thrashed on the super double secret invite-only forum. UMBRAGE I tell you!!

I should offer a reward if anyone here can quietly infiltrate that forum, and report back with juicy stuff. Any takers? We'll never expose who you are, just laugh quietly about what goes on behind those doors amongst "the elite".

I don't think any of us have cheesehead breadwinners and could afford to stalk players to the ends of Pure Platnum to obtain the inside info neccessary to become cool enough for the "Super Secret Double Probation Insiders" board.
