Buckeyestatebaseball has confirmed the hiring of Greg Beals.

Chris Webb tweeted this earlier, but i wasnt sure if it was a done deal.

A mild surprise, but not a shocker. I think most people thought he would be in the running, but i had sorta gotten locked onto Lemonis the last few days.

Do you think Beals will bring over Pitching Coach Mike Stafford?

If it's up to Beals, i'd say definitely. I don't know how much autonomy Beals will have in regards to putting together his staff, but i;d say it's a safe bet Stafford will come with. Stafford seems to have done a nice job at BSU, and he's a Buckeye so i say bring him on.

Cavfan, I noticed you seemed a bit unsure about Beals,

I really think we are all going to be pretty happy with this guy. I feel really good about this hire.

Better recruiting, better schedules...i'm pretty excited!

I'm happy with the hire. BSU's 1st and 2nd round draft picks were both from Ohio, ironically.
From the above link, it doesn't sound like the Ball State people are too unhappy about his leaving. I know about sour grapes but it doesn't seem like he has an outstanding record in a mid-level conference. I know that he got 2 guys drafted in the first round this year but what about all of the other years and most of his recruits seem to be from Indiana. Maybe only the good recruits come from Ohio.

The article also states that he will bring his pitching coach, Stafford, with him.

Definitely warming up to Beals. I'd say I'm unsure about Beals because I know little about him. I like what I have been reading about him and I am very excited to see what he can do. Next year is going to be rough with all we are losing. Hopefully he can get to work on 2011 recruiting after he gets his staff put together.

Old news, but Mike Stafford (pitching coach) & Chris Holick added to the staff.

Holick is a young, high energy guy who has a reputation as a good recruiter. He gives us footing in florida and arizona..which seems to have already paid dividends.

One unpaid spot left to fill on the staff, but i can already say that this new group is quite a contrast to what we had previously. We wont get splattered on the recruiting trails anymore...these guys are gonna do work.

Cheers

Holy Cow!

'If nothing else makes new Buckeye coach Greg Beals realize he no longer is at Ball State, his paycheck surely will. According to the Twin Cities Pioneer Press as the head coach of the nation's largest athletic department's oldest varsity team, Beals will receive a salary that is the highest in the Big Ten, a total that nearly doubles Minnesota's John Anderson. Anderson if you are unaware is the longest tenured Big Ten baseball coach, a coach with more than 1,000 collegiate wins, and recently was named the 2010 ABCA MidEast Region Coach of the Year'.

I split some posts from the coaching search thread to create a thread about new Ohio State baseball coach Greg Beals

Coach Beals was introduced to the crowd at this last Saturday's football game against Ohio University.
