Coaching changes: coaches hired and fired, comings and goings

I dunno

Being a native son and all, Nebraska isn't ever going to run him off unless he's just abysmal. He gets back to even decent and he's got Ferentz like tenure potential given his age.

Those other [Mark May]holes are full of psycho white trash who think they are Bama and will want him gone the first time he has a less successful season than the one before it.

Corn can pay just as much with 1/4 of the headaches.
Solid points. But is he happy riding it out at a program where his ceiling is probably winning a shitty division? Nebraska just has too many disadvantages in today's CFB landscape. Guess it comes down to how ambitious he is.

They can recruit Texas and Cali. If Wisconsin can be competitive so can Nebraska.

They may not get back to consistent NC competitors but the B1G West is infinitely winnable.

That’s my point...if he’s content overseeing a regional power like Wisconsin, then he would probably be happy in Lincoln. If he has national title aspirations, probably not. Despite the trashy fan base, he probably has a better shot in Gainesville.

maybe

I just see UT and UF as regional powers as well. It's just a trashier region.

Could very well be. But UF does have 3 national titles in the last 21 years by two different coaches. I don’t know if he’ll be a Spurrier or Meyer, but it can be done there given the homegrown talent base. He won’t have that at Nebraska...the talent base, that is. Saban’s 66, so he ain’t gonna be there forever.

I’m not even acknowledging Tennessee, because they’re garbage and always will be.

I honestly hope Nebraska gets their guy this time around. Right now the Big Ten West is complete butt and if Nebraska can regain a sliver of their former glory it would benefit everyone. I don't think they're gonna consistently compete for national titles ever again, but IMO their ceiling is a slightly better Wisconsin.
Frost might be their last hope at regaining any kind of relevance. Now, he could flop massively, but he seems to have a lot going for him that could translate to a program like Corn.

Coop is a Hall of Fame coach. Not that it matters because they are all really good, but Cooper was probably slightly better than Earle.
While Cooper was a failure at rivalry coaching, and lost control at the end, to his credit, he did modernize the program, and pulled in some quality out of state talent that I could not see Earle getting to come to Columbus.

5 worst deals among college football coaches contracts

Kirk Ferentz, Iowa
It’s not just the length of Ferentz’s deal, which runs through Jan. 31, 2026, that makes it problematic; It’s also the bonuses and buyout parameters. If Iowa were to terminate Ferentz's contract without cause Dec. 1, it would owe him an amount in excess of $22.5 million.

...

Lovie Smith, Illinois
Smith’s buyout — a whopping $16.5 million, which ranks 11th in our database — single-handedly lands him on this list. Though there is an offset clause in Smith’s contract, it states that 59-year-old would need only to make “reasonable ongoing efforts in seeking employment” and would receive the full buyout if he simply remained retired after being fired. It's proved to be a risky commitment to make, given that Smith has posted a 5-14 record and won only two games against Power Five teams so far in his tenure at Illinois.

Yes, he was elected to the College Hall Of Fame as a coach. However, in my humble opinion, Cooper was a Hall Of Fame manager (not a coach). He was a decent recruiter too; but he was not a "hands on" micro-manager (i.e. like Tressel, etc.). He managed his assisitant coaches and let them coach. In the end he was only as good as his assistants made him.
