Coaching changes: coaches hired and fired, comings and goings

He sure did out coach the good guys by a wide margin in that 2014 game with the 46 defense. One of the most frustrating games I have ever sat through.

That’s the last game I can think of where I was highly impressed with the VT defense. The offense couldn’t do anything which was a remarkable accomplishment for VT. The last few years though they haven’t been the same. Foster is one of the best to come through though and I admire that he stayed loyal and was comfortable as a DC and didn’t jump ship when he could have had head coaching gigs.

Bob Davie has taken the New Mexico job, according to the ESPN ticker.

He was the head coach at ND from 1997-2001.

Bob Davie ‘doing well and recovering’ following ‘serious medical incident’

It appears there is a sizable silver lining to a rather scary-sounding situation that developed late Saturday night.

Shortly after New Mexico beat Sam Houston State in its season opener, it was reported that head football coach Bob Davie had experienced some type of “heart trouble” and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Shortly thereafter, UNM athletic director Eddie Nunez released a statement in which he confirmed that Davie “was taken to the hospital as a result of what appeared to be a serious medical incident” and asked “that you keep the Davie family in your prayers.”

In an update, the university forwarded a statement attributed to the Davie family that for now allayed many of the fears/concerns that had developed over the past couple of hours.

We would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. Coach Davie is doing well and recovering, he is surrounded by family and your continued thoughts, prayers and privacy are greatly appreciated during this time.

The specifics of what exactly Davie is recovering from have not yet been divulged.

The 64-year-old Davie is in his eighth season as the head coach at New Mexico. He was the head coach at Notre Dame from 1997-2001 before taking what turned out to be a decades-long sabbatical from the coaching profession.

The ticker is NOT something to play with. I learned that after my recent scare with high BP. On 8/18, my BP was as high as 206/120.

That is stroke level, folks.

After getting poked, fussed at, and awaiting an ER bill, I had to get my ish together and get smart about it by watching what I eat, getting up and active more, AND pushing myself away from the table. The Doc hooked me up with magic pills, too.

Twenty three days later, my BP is a cool 114/77.

Watch your blood pressure, folks. It's the Silent Killer.

Prayers for him and his fam. I know how scary it is.

Glad to hear that you got it under control relatively quickly!
After a cardiac "event" about 10 years ago that scared the hell out of me, I had to make a lot of changes also. Even now, it's sometimes a bit of a struggle to do the things I need to do, but thinking of the alternative (and the wife's "suggestions") keeps me on the right track. Definitely something to take very seriously!

I have no love for Briles, but this is a little odd. The same committee, last month, decided that both players were eligible based on their parents relocating to take jobs. No one seems to be willing to say what changed.

Actually, it looks like just today they reversed the reversal again, allowing Mt Vernon to not forfeit the games, but the transfer players are still ineligible:
