NC State out of College World Series due to COVID-19 issues; Vanderbilt to finals

Eleven hours after North Carolina State took the field at the College World Series with a depleted roster because of COVID-19-related issues, the Wolfpack found out their season was over.

Around 2 a.m. Saturday morning, the NCAA Division I baseball committee declared Saturday's winner-take-all bracket final between NC State and Vanderbilt a no contest due to COVID-19 protocols, putting the Commodores into the CWS championship round.

Vanderbilt will face the winner of Saturday night's bracket final between Texas and Mississippi State.

The NCAA said the decision to rule NC State out was based on the recommendation of the championship medical team and the Douglas County (Nebraska) Health Department.

"The NCAA and the committee regret that NC State's student-athletes and coaching staff will not be able to continue in the championship in which they earned the right to participate," the statement read. "Because of privacy issues, we cannot provide further details."

Huge break (among many so far) for Vandy.

They get to rest until Monday now and reset their rotation. Winner of MSU/Texas today should be pissed but not sure what else could have been done if NC State can't field a team.

Really feel bad for the NC State kids and coaches. They laid it all out there with 9 guys on Friday and damn near took Vandy out.

the protocols that got NC State are fucking stupid.

and Vandy basically got to dictate them.

guys with multiple negative tests over the course of the week couldn’t play due to “contact tracing” despite negative test results.

it’s bullshit.

and i hope the whole fucking monstrosity of a stadium collapses into a sinkhole of liquid buffalo shit with those two teams and fan bases in it.

With the way Vandy got here and the way MSU just is, I will most certainly be rooting for the meteor.

I've never been into college baseball for two reasons: starting the season in Winter guarantees that it'll be a regional sport that the B1G is at a structural competitive disadvantage and aluminum bats.

However, I decided to give it a watch on Monday night. I changed the channel in the second inning for one reason: those two idiot Vandy fans that whistle non-stop. How they're allowed to stay in the park is beyond me. Congrats, ncaa. By refusing to deal with those two, you lost whatever chance you had of winning me over as a fan.

the start date won’t change that. Probably isn’t even in top 3 things that would need to change to balance that out.

Between the whistler and the cowbells, i was really hoping the whole stadium would collapse on them.

How did Vandy cheat? NCSU had an anti-vaxx coach and half their team was unvaccinated. They brought that shit on themselves. Had the team been fully vaccinated, nobody shows any symptoms even if they had contracted it, and they go out and play. I don't have a dog in this fight, as I could give two shits about two SEC teams in a regional sport that's irrelevant for the B1G on a national level.

They have nobody but themselves to blame for their dream getting kicked in the head.

As I read it the Vandy coach had quite a bit of say in the process of who was and wasn't allowed to play for NC state even as they were coming back with negative tests.

Agree that NC State did it to themselves but, again as I understood it, the Vandy guy took advantage of the situation.

My understanding is that it was a case of the idiot NCSU coach saying "the team has a BUG going around," and at that point, the Vandy coach may or may not have said whoah! Let's do some testing here. Was he looking to get the game called off or just spare his team from being exposed to an opposing team that had a COVID outbreak. Probably, only he knows. Probably a bit of both. Anyway, I could care less about who won or didn't win that sport.

4 players with a week’s worth of Negative results, tested negative again that day and still weren’t allowed to play due to “contact tracing”.

i ain’t gonna blame Vandy, as i don’t think they have that kind of stroke, but sitting out people with no symptoms and a negative test is just plain bullshit.

not to turn this discussion political, but…

the NC State coach is fully vaccinated.
Kinda hard to call him “anti-vax”.

what he said was that his players were old enough to make their own decisions and he wasn’t going to indoctrinate them one direction or the other.
