I also assume the same complaints would be raised had Smith scored a TD instead of getting tackled at the one?

Well, much has already been said, so I won't repeat everything. A few thoughts:

1. I've read a lot of people lauding the "classy move" by not scoring at the end, as well as people frustrated by it. My thought: If Rod had scored with a minute left when we HAD to run a play, awesome. However, I'm glad they didn't hurry up to the line and take an unnecessary snap. That is why it was a "classy" move. No, it isn't taking any responsibility off the defense, it is simply showing "class."

If you're the team winning by a mile, most of the time it's good sportsmanship to run out the clock. If you're the losing team, it's bad sportsmanship to complain about what the other team decides, either way. If it isn't your team playing, you get to complain no matter what happens, because it's college football.

So I assume you think Fickell lacks sportsmanship? After all he "ran up the score" by doing passing plays, etc. during Akron. Doesn't matter if it was 2nd and 3rd stringers, it was still intent on moving the ball to score.

Dude, do you honestly believe there is a comparison between breaking in 2 first-time starters, and calling timeout and calling a run play with seconds remaining in a game that is all but over.

Come on.

Clearly, we are arguing to very different things, and your apparent inablity to comprehend "sportsmanship" is making this impossible to discuss.

I guess I don't understand how scoring a TD on a drive that started at 10 minutes left in the game where the only passes were done when it was 3rd down or 10+ yards left to get a 1st down is considered unsportsmanlike.

By all means, enlighten me how eating the clock and scoring at the end of a clock eating drive is considered unsportsmanlike. That drive was 14 plays long, with 4 pass attempts and 3 completions. Two of those pass attempts were before the first 1st down was made.

+1. I almost don't even want to see Baus perform well throwing to even create a seed of doubt who should be kept in the game at all critical moments.

I would never want someone to NOT perform well for the sake of someone else... It was clear that he was mopping up. He was 100% throwing but I seriously doubt anyone is going to question that he should replace Miller for the Sparty game.

Yes... I used 2 negatives in a sentence.

As a Bauserman supporter through the first 3 games, it is clear that the receivers are still dropping passes and so on, which he needs. He does not have the scramble ability that Miller has, so as long as the receiving corps is in doubt, he won't be playing much. He might make some more appearances when Posey and Co. come back, but I think his starting job is over...

Please see my original post for my feelings on WHY I considered it unsportsmanlike. I really don't feel that anything more needs to be said.

However, to clarify: The issue is not eating the clock, the issue is not the pass plays, the issue is NOT simply scoring at the end of a long drive. Get a clue, read the post, then respond.

The issue is running an extra play, and unnecessarily scoring when a game is clearly "over."

Doing that doesn't make him a bad guy, just means he chose not to show any class in that moment. Whatever. Life will go on.

But, I'm done with this now.

Good win, go BUCKS!

Says the person who quoted my response to someone else when I wasn't even initially talking about your post. I never read your post initially, and my post had nothing to do with your post.

But yes, I'm done as well and yes, good game and good win.

Golden did nothing wrong in our game against Miami.

Well, I guess you showed me.

Gotta love points!

Things I learned today:

Braxton Miller looked very shaky early on, mostly because Bollman wouldn't call a pass play unless it was 3rd and long. He also was clearly looking for running lanes rather than looking for the open man. With that said, he came around, and delivered some nice passes. Those consecutive drops by T.Y. and Berry were pretty frustrating in the 4th quarter, since Braxton was starting to feel it. He's clearly the future, and with an OC that knows how to utilize him, he'll be amazing.

This felt like 2008 in some ways, and not so much in other ways. We had a ton of games with 100 or less passing yards, with 250+ rushing yards, and our QB moved the chains with his feet. It's different because to be brutally honest, this defense isn't up to par with recent defenses we've had. There is much to be desired as far as speed is concerned in the front 7. Stretch plays and tosses are WAY too successful. Sabino, Sweat, and Storm seem to be a little on the slower side, and it shows on the previously mentioned outside runs, and also in coverage. Way too many open receivers in the middle of the field. I hadn't noticed the slow reactions and inability to make plays in the passing game until I actually got to see it live, but it's obvious to me. Nathan Williams returning would be great right now. Also, Shazier needs to see A LOT more time. He's a freak.

The special teams are not as bad as previously thought. It seems Basil has straightened his head out, and Buchanon is a field position weapon. The coverage unit is very, very good as well.

Dominic Clarke might be better than Travis Howard.

Devin Smith is a monster, and T.Y. will become one before his days are done.

All in all, it was a great game to watch, and since the Big Ten isn't very good, who the hell knows? It starts next week against Sparty. I see no reason we can't win that game.

Go Bucks.

It was good seeing Bryant getting the start today. I believe he ended up having the most tackles at the end of the day (6).

Shazier is the real deal and brings speed to the LB position. He needs to see the field more.

We will be a much better D when Nate returns. He brings a dimension and versatility that has been greatly missed these past two weeks. We need him back ASAP with us entering into Big Ten play.

The D still needs to work on technique and tackling. Being out of position and taking wrong angles continues to be a problem.

I watched the game on a larger screen for a change. Once Miller settled his nerves and the coaches felt secure it letting him throw it a bit, I liked what I saw. Raw? Yes. But a very impressive skill set.

The linebackers scared me again from time to time. The secondary in general seemed to be very good at times and surprisingly lacking in fundamentals at others. Several times, people were way out of place and showed their youth. Having seen Nebraska, I think the Buckeyes can play them closer than some folks here seem to think. Unless there is a dramatic change, I think that Wisconsin is going to be very, very tough for this team to beat.

Put me in the group that thinks the final play was a class act. It's was what I would expect from an Ohio State team, except for Woody in one game each year.

All in all, this game was a step up the ladder. I can't wait to see the entire team on the field for the first time.
