Columbus Crew SC (2008, 2020, 2023 MLS Champions)

Whoa, 2-0 Crew in the 75th minute. Cruz Azul may not be let back into Mexico if this holds up - their media will roast them.

Crew takes down Fire, won't get chance to defend title

The Columbus Crew will not defend their 2020 MLS Cup championship even with a 2-0 victory against the visiting Chicago Fire on Sunday in the regular-season finale for both teams.

Columbus (13-13-8, 47 points) won their final three games and were 7-2-2 in the past 11, but along with D.C. United, finished a point behind the New York Red Bulls for the seventh and final spot in the Eastern Conference.

Which puts it 6-11-6 in the first 23. Overall a disappointing season.

Yeesh. This isn't starting well.

Startling stats post dogshit logo reveal aside, I think something needs to shake up. Either start making roster moves, move on from Caleb Porter, or get a GM in who can right this ship. I was all for the hiring of Porter and Bezbachenko, but there’s no denying the staggering regression of this team from the end of 2020 to where we’re at now. There’s also no excuse for having guys like Sands, Hurtado, and others who clearly aren’t quality enough to be competing for playing time in the MLS. Plenty of blame to go around, but it’s never too late to revert away from this god awful logo we’ve been cursed with.

Welp, dropped a few shekels in the transfer window. See what happens here. Not going to matter much if they don't get healthier.

Question kind of remains about the wing play, but maybe Hernandez makes them better by being a bit more of a dynamic presence than Berry.

Columbus Crew sign Cucho Hernandez from Watford in club-record deal

The Columbus Crew acquired striker Juan Camilo "Cucho" Hernandez from England's Watford in a record-setting deal, the club announced on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old Colombian has signed a contract which will run through 2025. Sources told ESPN on Monday that Crew had agreed a transfer fee of just over $10 million with the English Championship side.

"Cucho is a world-class player who is still at an early stage of his career, and we could not be more excited to welcome him to the Columbus Crew," Tim Bezbatchenko, Crew president and general Manager said.
