Re: CHICAGO GOAL: Brian McBride in the 29th minute

WTF!

McBride spearheads Fire offense against Columbus

Brian McBride has provided the Fire with a physical presence at forward.

As homecomings go, the looming reunion between Chicago Fire forward Brian McBride and his old team, the Columbus Crew, couldn't be more awkward. For the first eight years of his MLS career, McBride did his utmost to drive the Crew to an MLS Cup, falling in the conference final on four occasions. Yet with another Eastern Conference title at stake on "MLS Primetime Thursday" (7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN2), it is McBride and his current team, the Fire, who are standing in the Crew's way.

He signed as an allocated player by Toronto F.C. (first in the waiver line to, so to speak) after he left the English Premier League this past season, then was immediately traded to his hometown Chicago Fire. He's been with the team since early July.

I love how vocal the fans are. They have been singing traitor at McBride all night. Early in teh game the Crew got a bad call and the fans started throwing paper and the annoucers are like....well you have to love a crowd that is this into the game :)

It's good to see the Crew win it this time, being 0-4 in the EasternCC game is tough to swallow. None of that matters now as the Crew have just punched their ticket to the MLS Cup. I lived in Columbus when the Crew was introduced, I've always liked MLS, so I'm enjoying their recent success. The Crew has been a top team in the Eastern division for a while and have finally advanced to the Finals. Good Luck, Go Crew.

Not much of a soccer fan either what props to the Black and Gold for winning the Eastern championship. I guess I don't understand why they don't play the championship at the home stadium of the team with the best record or it doesn't Columbus have the best record. I really don't have any idea where they are playing so maybe attendance is a factor.

Sort of nice to hear that the Crew's fans gave it to McBride last night. When he was here, he was gone or injured then he was here.:(

Favored Crew meet surprising Red Bulls

By all accounts, the 2008 MLS Cup Final should be a mismatch, with the dynamic and dangerous Columbus Crew taking on the short-handed and overachieving New York Red Bulls.
It shouldn't be hard to predict the outcome when the Crew's multitalented attack takes on the Red Bulls and their patchwork defense, but given the dramatic path the Red Bulls have taken to their first MLS Cup final, nobody is likely to be in a hurry to write off a team that has already overcome so much.
Despite the disparity in their regular-season records, the Crew and Red Bulls should make the 2008 MLS Cup final a memorable one. Can Juan Carlos Osorio find a game plan to slow down Guillermo Barros Schelotto and the Crew's high-octane attack? Will star forward Juan Pablo Angel shine on Major League Soccer's biggest stage and show us why he is widely regarded as the league's best player? Can a team of quality stop a team of destiny?
These are just some of the questions this All-East MLS Cup final will present Sunday. You should also watch out for the following:

Five story lines to follow

1. The Red Bulls' Cinderella story.
After backing into the playoffs on the last day thanks to a D.C. United meltdown, the Red Bulls have taken full advantage of that second chance to pull off a pair of road upsets and capture the imagination and interest of media and fans in New York and New Jersey.
