Sounds like it's official now.

The Official Site of U.S. Soccer - Men's National Team

GREAT NEWS!

I've been to the last couple Qualifiers against Mexico and I have to say that (Ohio State football games not included) it is THE best sports atmosphere I could imagine. I simply love international soccer and watching our Yanks beat the [censored] out of Mexico is as good as it gets.

So much pride for the country put on the line. The chants, the intensity, the cold...it's a wonderful thing to experience. I hope I can get in on a couple tickets to this years match.

USA! USA!
I went to the last one in 2005 at Crew Stadium... watched the Bucks beat Miami (OH) in the afternoon and the US qualify for the world cup over Mexico at night... great day

I went to the U.S. vs Mexico game in 2001 (aptly reffered to by Mexico as "Guerra Fria" or "Cold War"). One of the coldest I've ever been. I still wear the skully I bought there at the game all the time every winter. Atmosphere was the best I've ever seen as far as soccer goes in the U.S., but OSU vs Texas (2005) and OSU vs TSUN (2006) were better atmospheres, in my opinion. If you're a borderline soccer fan though, seeing this game from the stands might make you a real fan (whether you like it or not)... as long as you can handle the February weather!

With your national pride on the line against another country (and culture), it certainly gets your blood pumping and makes for an amazing game... especially with the severe dislike each side has for each other in this rivalry. I remember Brian McBride's eye getting swollen shut after getting punched/hit in the face in the 2001 spat. Mexico STILL has yet to score a goal against us at CCS in two tries. Looking forward to "Guerra Fria II" and another clean sheet!

On US Soccer website, it states that ticket information will be announced in the near future. I can't wait to go to this match. I've never been to a professional/world soccer match before and since seeing this yesterday, I am very excited.

Ha. Same thing I did. Great day indeed.

And no j.o., I haven't been to any "large" events of those types. :(

No Finals or Championships.

Been to a few NCAA Tournament games (no Final Four). Regular season hockey games (well, maybe a couple Columbus Chill and Indiana(polis) Ice playoff games).

So, yeah, it's hard for me to compare to it to the best of the best in other sports. But for a fan of soccer...even just a fan of the United States of America, it is a GREAT experience. There is just so much passion in international soccer. The 2001 game was just a blast as I saw our country come out and support our Yankees on their road to the World Cup.

Hard to really explain. I just loved it. I'm sure there are better things out there, but I guess I'd recommend checking out a World Cup Qualifier at least once.

Crew GM (and goat) Mark McCullers is set to announce the Crew's next head coach at 2pm on Monday

Widely speculated that former player and current assistant coach Robert Warzycha will finally get his chance at the head coaching gig.

Good for Robert.

I've met him a couple times and he's a very good guy. Funny personality. Saw him stay late after practice to work on his great free kicks whenever I would go watch. Plus, he loves the Columbus and the Crew.

It's official: former "original" player and long-time assistant Robert Warzycha becomes the 5th head coach of the Columbus Crew.

No surprise and a good signing. There would have been a lot of drama in the locker room if any other name had been announced today.

I've been hearing a lot of rumor-ish type of material lately regarding the Crew. If you guys don't mind me posting that stuff in here, I'll continue to do that. Otherwise, I can create a thread in the Rumor Mill dedicated to those rumors.

Latest stuff is that the German Bundesliga team Mainz offered Marshall a contract, and he has been said to have rejected the offer and is looking to sign to a contract extension with the Crew. If true, it's a nice break for the Crew, but at this point it's all hearsay. No word on the salaries talked about in either contract.

Also sounds like another player Sigi would like to bring with him to Seattle is Alejandro Moreno. If they wanted him (or anyone else for that matter), they would have to trade for him or wait until his contract expired.

And to those wondering about the U.S. vs Mexico tickets, no word yet on when they are going on sale. It's a hot topic though. Those tickets are going to go FAST! Don't wait to buy them at the gate, because it sounds like there won't be any to buy... unless you prefer buying from scalpers.

Interesting article discussing the why the US/Mexico game should be played somewhere other than in Columbus. Funny thing is that the USA editor has much more scathing things to say than the Mexican editor.

Crew stadium: "a rickety temple"? U.S. Soccer: doesn't have the "cajones" to play the game away from Columbus?

ever been to a stanley cup game? or the finals? ncca tournament? let me know, i may go...

I've been to NCAA tourney game University of Dayton Arena which blow aways the pissant performance at Nationwide we had last time. I've seen more fired up crowds at a Wright State game than Illinois-Va Tech and Holy Cross-Southern Illinois.

This my Canadian friend will be one of the best events you'd ever attend. I've been to one US-Mexico at Crew Stadium and it's up there with OSU-Texas, Bengals-Steelers playoffs, NCAA tourney @ UD and the Dayton Pittsburgh last year in intensity.

Plus you have the pride of America against the people that chant and throw horrible things at Azteca in Mexico City. Mexican soccer can die in a fire as far as I'm concerned.

Couldn't disagree more. These are the preparations for competition on the sport's grandest stage, and also against your fiercest rival. You use every advantage you have available to you. Sure, part of this is about demographics as much as anything else, but it's also a reward for the fans in this region who get out to the stadium and support the team in person and make sure they're not outnumbered. I think hosting this match for the third consecutive cycle is a distinction that Columbus has earned, and if they want the game in other places in the future the fans will have to prove they can put more American butts in the seats.

I'm really excited about this match. I've been checking the site pretty much every day to see when tickets will become available.

The rumors were indeed true!

Confirmed: Crew re-sign 2008 MLS Defender of the Year Chad Marshall.

Great news. A week ago, this would have been a huge surprise. Sounds like he left a more lucretive contract on the table to stay home, though he's still being well-compensated. No word yet on dollar figures or how many years the contract is for, but it's been speculated that he should stay another 2 years before finally jumping ship for Europe.

This team is going to be the favorite next year to repeat as MLS Cup Champions, with 10 of its starting 11 returning (Evans picked up by Seattle) and guys on the bench that would start and star for other teams in the league (Ekpo, Moffat, Noonan, Iro).

Just found out Marshall's contract is a 3-year contract. Good news.

More good news from...
MLSnet

U.S. National Team coach Bob Bradley picked 5 members of the Columbus Crew to help represent the U.S. in a friendly against Sweden January 25th in L.A.

GK - William Hesmer
D - Chad Marshall
M - Robbie Rodgers
M - Eddie Gaven
M - Brian Carroll

1/5 of the team will be made up of players from Columbus. Outstanding.
