Columbus Wild Dogs (IFL)

Great defensive stand by Cleveland. They're making the Force burn up most of the clock just to try to close the gap.

Looking like a trip to Philly is coming up next weekend.

Hey ! Theres old Bernie Kosar with Cleveland good to see him around.

He owns the team. I'm sure he's very interested in the outcome. :wink2:

They interviewed him earlier and he looked anxious as Georgia scored while he was talking.

Maybe we'll get Cleveland versus Grand Rapids for the title?

Ohio versus Michigan...although the Rampage are the ones donning red and gray unis.

AFL PLAYOFFS
Cleveland Gladiators' Otis Amey handles Georgia's defense

Wednesday, July 09, 2008 Dennis Manoloff
Plain Dealer Reporter

Fittingly, the onside kick by the Georgia Force in the final seconds landed in Otis Amey's hands. Amey had earned the right to secure the outcome for the Gladiators in a 73-70 divisional-round victory Monday night in Duluth, Ga.
The Gladiators will play the Philadelphia Soul in the National Conference championship game Saturday in Philadelphia.
Georgia owned a regular-season division title, was coming off a bye week and had home-field advantage. It featured strong offen sive and defen sive lines and a quality quar terback.

As Gladiators mature into a playoff contender, so does Bernie Kosar as an executive

Marvin Fong/The Plain DealerBernie Kosar has kept a prominent profile alongside the Gladiators' bench during the team's first year in Cleveland. But the former Browns star has deferred the spotlight to coach Mike Wilpolt and the players as the team surged to the playoffs.

Ron Jaworski said he caught part of Bernie Kosar's playoff pep talk in the Gladiators' locker room on cable television recently. "I gotta write some notes for him," said the voluble "Jaws," the ESPN analyst and top football man with the Philadelphia Soul. Kosar, the president of the relocated and formerly sad-sack Gladiators, has mastered most of the material quickly, pep talks aside. "The game's not going to be won by what's said in the locker room anyway," said Kosar of Saturday's National Conference Arena League Championship Game in Philadelphia.

I actually plan to watch the game Saturday. Not usually an AFL junkie but I'd like to see this team advance. Probably doesn't hurt that I fucking hate Philly teams, either.

Comfortable in the Arena: Gladiators roll to semifinal behind indoor lifers Philyaw, Wilpolt

Think Bill Nelsen. Think Brian Sipe. Think Steve McNair after a few years in the NFL.
That's Ray Philyaw, the 33-year-old quarterback who has carried the surprising Cleveland Galdiators to the Arena Football League's Final Four.
This is his ninth year in the AFL, and he has been knocked down, beat up and physically bounced around from one end of the league to the other. In the process, the 5-foot-10 Philyaw has become one of the league's greatest quarterbacks -- ever.

Ray Philyaw has nine years of experience in the Arena League.

"If Ray were a few inches taller, he'd be an NFL quarterback," said Gladiators coach Mike Wilpolt. "He takes 3 to 5 hits a game that are almost frightening, and gets back up. He is so special."
That opinion also is held by Bernie Kosar, who marvels at Philyaw's grit. When the former Browns' quarterback says a fellow QB is tough, he speaks from his own career history of broken bones, concussions, sprains, strains and other assorted pains.

Cleveland Gladiators fall short

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

PHILADELPHIA Matt D'Orazio had himself a good week.

The quarterback engineered a last-second game-winning drive, won the Arena League's Most Valuable Player award, and capped it off by throwing eight touchdown passes to lead the Philadelphia Soul to its first appearance in the Arena Bowl with a 70-35 win over Cleveland on Saturday.

D'Orazio, an Otterbein College graduate, completed 17-of-25 passes for 184 yards. Larry Brackins and Brent Holmes each caught three touchdown passes.

"I'm really fortunate, its not about me though, I'm just happy to be part of this organization," D'Orazio said.

Why did they put 2 weeks between the conference championship games and the Arena Bowl? I understand they are trying to copy the Super Bowl, but I think two weeks is kinda stupid when the NFL does it and even worse in this instance. They've got me to watch their product for two straight weeks for only the second time ever, and now they're gonna put two weeks between games. Two weeks from now, I won't even remember the AFL exists.
