Cook, Conley, and Oden

Dispatch

Oden to leave OSU, enter NBA draft
Freshman sensation Greg Oden will leave Ohio State after one season to enter the NBA draft, The Dispatch has learned.
Oden, who is in Indianapolis for an aunt?s wedding, is expected to make an announcement Friday. He is widely anticipated to be the first pick in pro basketball?s amateur draft on June 28.
Mike Conley Jr., Oden?s longtime teammate on AAU and high school teams before joining the Buckeyes, will also enter his name in the draft, but he is not expected to sign with an agent. Players have until April 29 to enter the draft and, if they do not sign with an agent, until June 18 to withdraw their names.

Continued......

Note: No mention of Cook...

Oden will finally be able to buy that Best Buy he's always wanted.

Seriously best of luck to any and all of them that go. I'm totally bummed out right now, but everything's gonna be alright.

I hold out a dim hope that Mike and DQ will come back.

None of the departure scenarios are anything but tinged with a little sadness -

Oden only - we will never see his exact like again, but the sadness is really more about not seeing him dominate for a full season.

Conley - a PG as intelligent and gifted as Conley will be hard to replace. The sadness here is mostly because he did show us everything he could do in that one season.

Cook - here the sadness is because he still has so much development, yet, his best games might very well come in the pros anyway.

What to be happy about? Many things - but, to name just two. The good all three brought to the Buckeyes this year, hell of a season. I might also argue that the trio helped invigorate the program in a manner not seen in many years.

Still would love to see them come back - but that isn't in the cards.

I think this is DEAD ON and can't be emphasized enough. It got fans and recruits excited about this team again. I think you could easily argue that without those three, we wouldn't have the great classes coming in 07 or 08 that we do.

The ticker on the bottom of ESPN is stating all three tossed their hat in for the NBA... it appears only Oden will sign with an agent (wonder who that will be :wink2: )... Cook and Conley can come back if the pull out before the deadline... The Columbus Dispatch broke the news...

Yahoo also carrying the Oden only to sign with agent angle. This time quoting their friend and Dayton Dunbar coach Al Powell, who was a party to meetings with the three.

"There will be a release in the morning from Ohio State. Greg Oden will be hiring an agent," said Al Powell, who has been a party to meetings between Oden and two other Buckeyes freshmen stars considering the draft.
As for the two others, Powell was less specific.
"Mike Conley Jr. and Daequan Cook will not be hiring an agent at this time," said Powell, a paid assistant coach at Dayton's Dunbar High School who helped coach all three players when they played AAU ball.
If Conley and Cook do not hire agents, they'll retain the option of returning to school next fall. College underclassmen have until midnight April 29 to declare whether they intend to make themselves available for the draft.
