So my major banking institution has finally decided to stick it to their credit card customers via a blanket raise in APR regardless of account history or card loyalty, therefore I'm shopping for a new card. I've had this card for more than a decade, so I'm not even sure what options exist.

Can anyone provide recommendations on deals?

I have a Charles Schwab Visa card. It gives me 2% back on all purchases and the 2% is rolled into my Charles Schwab mutual fund.

Not only are they giving me money back - but they're investing it for me.

I pay the card off every month so it works out well!

google search. there are a lot of tools and rankings of the current crop of credit cards being offered. its pretty smart right now to diversify. its very likely that all credit card companies are going to start screwing their customers in the very near future. just a question of how bad and in what manner.

heh, support bp and click on the banner add...

So I'm looking into getting a Credit Card to start building some credit since I'll be graduating here in the Spring. I had one about 4 years ago but cancelled it because I never used it. When I had it, I only used it for purchases I KNEW I had the money for and that's obviously what I'd do for the new one (such as utilities, gas, etc) So anyways, I've applied to a few places over the last month or so and I've been rejected (my guess is the low income due to being a student and not much on my credit) however I do have Huntington looking over my application for a card from them. Now I was wondering, what would you do in my shoes?

Just had this situation also...noticed my APR was bumped to 20.990% even though I've never had a late payment, usually carry a minimal balance, and have had the card since 1994.

What is a standard, acceptable APR rate anymore?

20.99% seems excessive, especially considering your history.

My Chase and American Express APR hasn't moved. I had a Citi card with a 6.99% APR. Like you I've never had a late payment and I've never carried a balance. I found out the other day they've raised it to 10.99% for no good fucking reason. Anyone know where the Citi corporate offices are? :sneaky:

never had a credit card, and the more i listen to people talk about the company practices the more grateful i am. if you need to build credit, huntington will give you a loan against the amount of money in your account, and as you pay it off you build your credit.
