Curt Schilling: lesson in stupidity

the yankees win because they have their own television network as well....just like the braves....

any coincidence the results are as they are....

you've got to respect the yankees for what they have been able to accomplish....you dont have to like them, but respect them....

i have also been fortunate enough to meet mr. steinbrenner on three occasions, two in columbus and once at the winter meetings.....i'll tell you this....he could own my club any day....hell marge schott was also a great lady and a great owner.....

too many teams are stuck with the Carl Linders(sp) of the world....thats where the blame should fall....that dickhead builds a brand new stadium and pockets the revenue instead of shelling it back out...

ok...rants over...

Di: "too many teams are stuck with the Carl Linders(sp) of the world....thats where the blame should fall....that dickhead builds a brand new stadium and pockets the revenue instead of shelling it back out..."

AND M.F'N B-I-N-G-O WAS HIS NAME-O!!! Thank you, Di!! I hate this jealous "ruined baseball" garbage.

P.S. I agree with you a bit too much on baseball matters, Di. That scares me a tinge.

Sorry guys, I bow to your wisdom. It has now been determined that baseball is a business first and a sport second. How dare I believe that teams should start on a level playing field?

I can't believe I thought it was wrong that other teams develop young talent in their own farm system only to have to trade it away because they don't have the resources to keep the players.

You can't argue with results...baseball is fading away! Fewer fans come to the games, ratings are low and the lesser teams trade their talent away to the Yankees, Red Sox, Cardinals, Astros, Dodgers, Braves, Etc.

I'm not going to pretend like the Yankees can't evaluate talent...but you can't argue that they don't just plug any holes with a superstar, whenever they need him.

Jealous...heck yeah I'm jealous. I've watched the Reds go year after year without a pitching staff, just trying to find a diamond in the rough during free agency so that we can field a decent team without losing money. Every year, we start out okay until reality sets in...other teams can buy mercenaries to jump us. Then we are forced to have a fire sale because we can't win, can't keep butts in the seats and can't afford the players.

PEOPLE DON'T WATCH LOSERS.

Go ahead and bring up the shooting star team that manages to shock the world and win the world series despite a low payroll. The exception PROVES the rule, you are bringing up these teams like they do it every year. The Marlins did it several years ago and had to unload an entire roster! These teams never consistently stay good. They will have a 1 or 2 year flash of talent and then be thrown to the bottom for 15 years while the Yankees never win fewer than 100 games in that stretch.

Sport isn't about competitive advantages...why do you think steroids are banned? Sports are basically about two individuals starting with God given abilities, bettering themselves through hard work and being better. Anytime someone gets a fundamental advantage over another...it's considered cheating. I guess that doesn't apply here because baseball is a business...not a sport.

So congratulations Yankees! You are dominating the capitalistic business world that is baseball. Watch as teams are forced to fold, the great teams get better and the poor ones get worse. Pretty soon you will be dominating a business that can't even stand.

if we are talking about what is good for baseball...the game.....mlb should contract....
get rid of four or five of the following: tampa bay, milwaukee, montreal, toronto, pittsburgh, kansas city, colorado, florida and oakland...
then the quality of play would get to a point that people watch the games....

also this shoebox of a strike zone has to go...watching barry bonds get walked b/c he refuses to swing at anything that isnt put on a "tee" flat out sucks...

I have always been what I thought was this biggest Yankee fan in the world but last night proved me wrong !!As the game was on the line with Bernie up to bat with 2 runners on base the wife decided to get frisky!! How dare her!! Needless to say I missed Bernies hit that but am happy to say that myself and my favorite baseball team both scored!!

I'm pretty sure she tried it as a challenge and thought I would turn her down (so she could use dog me about it later) but a guy has to have his priorities...

Why not? Your premise is that the Twins would've won if they go to the 'Pen and Gardenhire blew the game. That's not the case.
no...my premise is that the yankees dont automatically win. yours is that they do, which is stupid. why even play the game?

Dude, the very NEXT GAME, Romero relieved Silva, and he walked the first batter he faced (Olerud), Cairo sacrificed, Lofton struck-out, and then Crain came in:

Crain gave up a single to Jeter (scoring both runs) his first batter, and then Mulholland gave up a homer to Matsui the next Inning. They weren't even getting lefties out!!
different game, different circumstances, doesnt mean shit.

and since we are talking about baseball being ruined by the yankee$....its true. no they arent breaking any rules...but its hardly fucking fair. i know all your bull shit blah blah this is a business crap.....so what. i dont root for microsoft or disney...i root for TEAMS. so i dont want to hear this business bullshit.

but since baseball is pure business to some of you....would you be fine with games being fixed to make more money? turn it into WWF. it would be entertaining....probly a lot more entertaining if it were scripted because you could just tailor each game to the fans wants. then the fans would be happy...they would pay more money to watch...and the businesses would be profitting. lets do that.

OilerBuck: "It has now been determined that baseball is a business first and a sport second. How dare I believe that teams should start on a level playing field?"

Baseball IS a business first. It always has been. Should it be that way? No. But it is. Teams should be on a level playing field, but they are not. You deal with reality, recognize it, adjust, move on, and try to compete the best you can WITHIN reality. Baseball in the Magical Wonderful Mystical Land of OZ is on a level playing field, not here.

And besides, you're a hypocrite: Marshall, Rutgers, and McNeese State don't start on a level playing field as Ohio State. OSU's Athletic Department has more money than any other in the ENTIRE COUNTRY! That's right, you heard that right. They have more resources, the HorseShoe, the tradition, the money, the boosters, etc. than almost anyone else in the Nation. CFB isn't a level playing field by a long shot. Is it still a sport? Is Ohio State "ruining" CFB too? You made the statement, so back it up: Ohio State AND the Yankees have "ruined" their respective sports.

"I can't believe I thought it was wrong that other teams develop young talent in their own farm system only to have to trade it away because they don't have the resources to keep the players."

You're right, it is wrong: but you blamed ONE TEAM for the problem. BASEBALL as a whole made the problem, not the New York Yankees. You're assesment of the problem is correct, your asssesment of blame is completely incorrect.

"You can't argue with results...baseball is fading away! Fewer fans come to the games, ratings are low and the lesser teams trade their talent away to the Yankees, Red Sox, Cardinals, Astros, Dodgers, Braves, Etc."

No, no, no, my man. If you make the statements, back it up: BASEBALL SET A SINGLE SEASON ATTENDANCE RECORD THIS SEASON!! 2004!! Just because you're down on baseball, doesn't mean the Nation is. There were more fannies in the seats this season than any other. The only blemish on baseball is that the World Series ratings have been down year after year. The Playoffs (before the WS) last year were the highest rated in history, and that's with cable TV in the equation.

"I'm not going to pretend like the Yankees can't evaluate talent...but you can't argue that they don't just plug any holes with a superstar, whenever they need him."

Of course they do. I never argued against this.

"Jealous...heck yeah I'm jealous."

Hey, I give you props for admitting it. But I personally never understood it. I wasn't jealous or didn't hate your team in 1990 when your team were the World Champions and my team was dead last in all of baseball. But hey, that's you and that's me.

"it's considered cheating."

I hate to break it to you my man, but the Yanks haven't broken one rule.

BN: "my premise is that the yankees dont automatically win. yours is that they do, which is stupid. why even play the game?"

WHAT????? My premise is that the Yankees would win because the Twins had a tired closer and no other options to face the heart of the line-up in extra innings. If the shoe was on the other foot, the Twins would win. You let your Yankee inferiority complex cloud your reading ability.

"since we are talking about baseball being ruined by the yankee$"

Hmmmm. What team signed Albert Belle to an enormous deal from the small-market Indians?? Since the Yankees are ruining baseball, Reinsdorf should've said, "You know what? I don't want to ruin baseball, so I'm not gonna offer this guy a contract." Baseball was ruined by BASEBALL, not the Yankees. Is it fair? Hell no. But that's the way things are.

"but since baseball is pure business to some of you....would you be fine with games being fixed to make more money?"

This makes no sense whatsoever.

"sorry....this didnt wash on BN. what makes you think it will here?"

READ THE DAMN THING AND ANALYZE BEFORE YOU POST: I didn't make the statement, and the statements aren't mutually exclusive. CFB isn't on a level playing field either. If I am going to say that "The Yankees ruined baseball," then I have to make the statement that, "Ohio State ruined College Football."

Either statement is a joke, but if I'm making one of them, then I'd have to say that the other is true.

The Yankees have as much an advantage over the Brewers as the Buckeyes have over Central Florida. Does Ohio State turn Ted Ginn's LOI down so he can go to a smaller school in the spirit of maintaining competitive balance in college football? I don't think so.

The Yankees used their revenues to start the YES Network. The Bucks' used their revenue to build the Schott, renovate the Shoe, and make world class facilities all over campus. You think this doesn't contribute to us getting the cream of the crop recruits year after year?

no...you said the yankees were going to win that regardless of who pitched. i can read just fine.

dude i dont give 2 shits about the white sox. bring them up all you want. im a fan, not a defender. i dont even like baseball anymore (thank to your yankees). baseball was ruined because it lets steinbrenner do what he wants.

This makes no sense whatsoever.
why not? baseball is purely a business isnt it? they would make more money if they fixed every game so the fans would be more entertained. you think general electric just throws a dish washer together and throws it out to the public? no, they make sure it is perfect for the public. so why not have MLB make all their games perfect. we can have drama and heroism in every single game! it will be great!

BN: "no...you said the yankees were going to win that regardless of who pitched. i can read just fine."

Translation: "I really have no argument, so I'm going to go around and around in circles spewing statements that make no sense just so I can say something without someone getting the best of me."

The Yankees WERE going to win because the Twins had no options. If you completely reversed the situation, the Twins would win. You said that I implied that the Yankees would win BECAUSE THEY ARE THE YANKEES. Admit you were wrong and go away for once.

"dude i dont give 2 shits about the white sox. bring them up all you want. im a fan, not a defender. i dont even like baseball anymore (thank to your yankees). baseball was ruined because it lets steinbrenner do what he wants."

No, your team just sucks. Last time I checked, Chicago is the 3rd biggest market in the U.S. The White Sox should be able to compete with anybody. If the Oiler has enough balls to admit he's jealous, man up and do the same yourself. And if you write an awful lot of threads on the baseball forum for someone that doesn't give 2 shits about baseball. Man up and admit it.

"so why not have MLB make all their games perfect. we can have drama and heroism in every single game! it will be great!"

And yadda, yadda, yadda ... what this has to do with anything is beyond me. Was the WS fixed last year??

"control your rants fuckface. this is the same shit you spewed over at BN. it didnt work then, it doesnt work now. but tell me, which piece of fruit below is better?"

Uh, hate to break it to you, but you weren't around when I was posting on BN, newbie. And I never said anything close to that before, either.

Do you live in fantasy land?
