Darius Walker back on market?

With Willingham gone at ND, has there been any talk of current players transferring? Darius Walker was down to OSU and ND at the end, I think and ended up at ND. Is he looking at a transfer? I would assume we would become one of the options if he was. How about any others?

Not when he has to sit out a year if he transfers anywhere. I think he stays put. Even when ND has a bad year they get plenty of pub, and a player that shines at ND will get props for the NFL draft.

I know someone that knows the Walker family and I can tell you Darius is VERY upset that Ty was fired. He is considering transferring but I'm sure he will wait to see who the new coach is and give him an opportunity to be sold on staying at ND. As you might recall the number 1 main reason he went to ND was because of Willingham.

I guess if he transferred the question would be whether he would consider OSU or whether he might follow Ty whereever he goes.

If they indeed get Meyer, then not only will none of their current kids leave, their recruiting will become significantly enhanced.
I don't know if it will be significantly enhanced. Enhanced, possibly.

ND has had recruting problems for some time now. TW had some things going for him to help recruit the elite athletes to ND. Besides the "prestige" and "mystique" of ND, he was the first African-American head coach at ND. And still he had problems recruiting the elite athlete in large part due to the academic standards and also in part to what appears to be the ND program has lost some of its lustre.

Now Meyer may have better success in recruiting than Davie and Willingham did, but I don't know how significant it will be. I guess time will tell.

The only prob. I have with Meyer going to ND, is the fact he coached at BG and certainly still has ties to Ohio High School coaches... the in state fense Coach Tressel has basically put up, will prob. have a few more holes in it, if Meyer gets the job...

Players always say they are going to transfer when a coach is fired but rarely if ever do players end up going through with it. There's no reason to make a drastic decision in the heat of the moment.

Walker's going nowhere.

The same uptick in ND Ohio recruiting was foretold upon the arrival of Ty. Davie also had plenty of Ohio ties IIRC.

ND's recruiting issues run deeper than the HC position imo and regardless, JT and staff are going to get at least 90% of the Ohio talent they want in any given year and 100% of the Glenville talent.

We'll be fine.

Let's explode one of the biggest urban myths in college football -- that ND's academic standards are too high to accept blue-chip recruits. It's baloney!

The guy who runs ND's version of Buckeye Planet ran the numbers -- he checked SAT scores for ND players against the SATs of traditional top 10 teams like Oklahoma, scUM, scUM South, etc. ND's crew ranked in the middle. Oklahoma recruits had higher SAT scores!

They can't recruit because: 1) they have lousy old facilities, 2) play in cold weather, 3) have no conference to play in to draw big national TV audiences, 4) regularly get blown out when they are in a big game and 5) the big enchilada -- for a 17 year old kid, there is no lustre there at all, no track record of success, no Heisman winners to emulate, no recent national championships, no big name All-Americans they remember. Nada, nothin', zilch. To a 17 year old kid, life experience watching NCAA football on TV leads him to believe that ND pretty much sucks. Because, for the past 15 or 20 years now, it has.
