How prospective students choose a college.
Factors are, location, cost, majors offered, boy/girl ratio, reputation, grad hiring rates.

What type of women do college men desire.
factors are eye color, hair color, height, weight and sorority.

What type of vehicles do rednecks drive
Factors are type of transmission, # of doors, four wheel drive, two wheel or all wheel drive, diesel or gas engine, area for politically incorrect bumper stickers.

Ok the last one was a stretch.

What's the prof want? If I had to relocate I'd wonder if there was a downtown worth visiting/living in. I'd wonder about schools (I'm a teacher too) public and private. I'd wonder about the arts. I'd wonder if you could afford to live downtown (Cincinnati) or faced an hour commute to affordable housing (Chicago) {{in which case, why live there?}} I'd wonder about the boy/girl ratio and the dating scene if I were single. I'd wonder about the costs of traveling out of town (Delta has made Cincinnati very undesirable). Does any of this seem remotely helpful?

How about alcohol and drug treatment? The reduction of recidivism when prisoners receive treatment vs those who don't receive treatment. Dependent variables can have a broad range. Independent variables can include treament vs non-treatment, drop-out rate and follow-up treatment when released from incarceration.
Treatment is less costly than non-treatment. It saves society money, reduces the crime rate, reduces hospitalizations and it saves the judicial system time and money.

A data analysis of Taco Bell screwing up your drive thru order as it correlates to the amount of toppings you want removed, the time of day in which you make your order and the age of the employee. :mad2:

correlation between SAT scores and socio-economic factors...
parental income
home value
parental education
race
local HS absentee data
kids SAT scores

and BTW, don't use Saw's example... cuz the answer is... order more than one item = TB will get it wrong... plus he left out 'the primary language of the person taking the order' vs 'English'

I've actually looked at the research on this subject and none of those factors are statistically significant at the undergraduate level. While it would be ideal that students consider these issues, most do not.

Instead, most undergraduate students select a college based primarily on two variables: parental influence and a campus that "feels right" (i.e. they think it is a place where they will fit in).

Grad

I got a football scholarship.
All I looked at was how soon I would get to play and the number of girls at the school.:biggrin:
I was also interested in getting away from local area.
My parents were not involved at all in my decision and I never felt like I fit in anywhere. I do believe parents are the most important factor considering they pay the bills.
Consider this thread officially hijacked.

Maybe we could do analysis on the factors that lead to a thread jacking.

1. The marginal inanity of the initial post;
2. The number of times the particular issue, or a reasonable facsimile thereof, has been addressed, both here and generally;
3. The identity of the thread poster;
4. The mood of AKAK or Rugby at the time of initial read of the thread and whether the Institute for the Criminally Insane has allowed internet access.

There must be some more, but that's a pretty good start.
