Potential loss of two assistants.

Going public regarding his health issues.

I am not liking this.
i think we're good for at least a few more years. that being stated, i wouldn't be surprised if the pain and wear escalate so much that matta makes an abrupt decision to retire earlier than expected.

my guess is that jent is being groomed. we'll be in good hands either way. coach has made ohio state a destination school. it's a better job than illinois and it's not even close.

anyway...

is matta an awesome coach or what? sorry, guys, but a mediocre in-game coach doesn't churn out head coaches like thad does.

Could explain the lapse in recruiting for 2012...
meh. the lapse should largely be attributed to numbers. there is only one scholarship available. yes, sully is almost certainly out the door, but the focus has been on the season. neither the staff, sully, nor the players want ongoing discussions about what happens after sully's season. twitter and the media already dominated his attention. the team doesn't need more on his plate.

And a long list of other things. Wake me up when there is an actual reason to worry. I don't have the stomach nor time for all of the hypotheticals I can come up with.

I get your point but I was referring to the fact that with Buford gone, Sully almost certainly gone, and Thomas a possibility, we have three scholarships open.

You can make the argument that Loving will be coming in the 2013 class but he will take Ravenal's spot.

Also consider the likely transfers of Sibert and Spoon.

I'm just saying...bringing in 0 kids in 2012 is not ideal...

While I totally agree with your post, I don't think it is Matta's health problems for the reason of the lack of recruiting this year. I think his assistants do the majority of the work so there probably is another reason for the lack of recruiting because, as you mentioned, we could be down to 9 roster players next year.

I find several things disturbing. Recruiting. Revelation of health issues. Assistants being courted for new jobs.

But can we leave this discussion until later? Until after the Final Four games?

Go Buckeyes! :oh:

Nor do I. However, the public discussion of Matta's health issues are not a plus for recruiting. Particularly when they are the sort of issues that could lead to an abrupt career end.

Oops - there I go again. Speculating on a message board.

ODU was down to a list of five finalists, Selig said. According to sources, other candidates include Dennis Felton, former coach at Georgia and Western Kentucky; and Steve Robinson, a North Carolina assistant who was head coach at Tulsa and Florida State. David Dickerson, an assistant at Ohio State who was the former head coach at Tulane; and Kevin Keatts, an assistant at Louisville, have also been in discussions, sources said.
