DB Brendon White (transfer to Rutgers)

Re: Ohio State isn’t done yet and a class of 25 could easily grow to 26 or 27 before all is said and done.

If they could have a 2020 class of 27, there are only 18 in this year's senior class with Hilliard, Cooper, and Saunders looking to return.

Add the early departures: Dobbins, Okudah, Young, and maybe Wade and those additional scholarships have to come from somewhere. I will say the coaches saw this coming.

Still losing Okudah, Arnette, Fuller, White, and possibility Wade will leave them really inexperienced and thin at DB in 2020.

As the season wore on I think we knew this was coming..White flourished in the old regime. Couldn’t find a niche in this one.

Not really, I remember guys like Riep, Brown, Proctor, Banks, not to mention getting a guy like Johnson back healthy. As long as we have Hafley back coaching them up, I'm not worried.

The fact that White wasn't playing but Tuf was tells me our staff wasn't perfect.

We failed Brendon and no one else did.

He prooved himself and we wasted him.

I’m honestly not trying to play contrarian to you here, just difference of opinion.

Does Hafley strike you as a guy who’d just not play the best or most deserving? By all accounts, Brendon is a game day player, and I’ll always be thankful for stepping up last year when no one seemingly could. That said, with a new staff, it’s hard to put a kid ahead of someone on the depth chart if they aren’t getting it done in practice.

And the correlation to Borland is apples and oranges to me....it’s not like White was competing for the MLB position.

I think White ultimately lost his PT to Wade who showed he could play slot corner at an elite level, but also play every down and be sufficient enough in run defense on early downs.

For sure and yeah I get all of that... White also lost playing time to Justin Hilliard too. I guess the hard part is all of these kids deserved to play and someone had to be the odd man out. Unfortunately that person was Brendon.

Not going to the CCG and then entering the portal at this moment, just weeks before the playoffs strikes me as really sad.

Even if I knew I was leaving I’d want to enjoy the ride while it lasted.
We're not the players, and fans usually have very different views, because they/we are fans. Players are players, and are looking out for their livelihood and aren't fans. White's focus is probably on the next school he will go to, be able to hopefully graduate, and/or make it to the NFL. Siting on the sidelines in games he know he won't play in, in order to party with his teammates isn't exactly a priority. I hear what you're saying as a fan, but I also understand his actions as a player

Seems like one that fell through the cracks.
New staff didnt buy in on him, i guess.
Would have preferred to see him in some of those packages where Werner was lost in center field, or over other DBs given a shot few times we played 2 Safeties.
He should have been a shoe-in anytime we put a guy next to Fuller. Or the game without Wade.
Maybe that was the breaking point for him... watching some other guys struggle bad with Wade out.
Best of luck. Thank you for Pasadena.

My comment was simply that it was sad he couldn’t enjoy this year man that’s all.

Agreed! How many chances is Brendon going to have to be on a team in a Championship game as well as the CFB playoff? Then again, maybe it was coaching staff that encouraged him to leave. It wouldn't be the first time. It's just the timing that's weird.
