DB Donald Washington III (Official Thread)

"It is really down to Indiana, Illinois and Ohio State. The only other place he might even consider is Nebraska. But I think he's always had the incredible dream to play at Ohio State and it is starting to finally materialize for him."

That was a quote from his coach.

Sign him up. A talented kid that want to be a Buck, let's go...Now on the other hand this kid would probably not get as kind of a reception on BN

I really love this kid, for reasons I am not aware of right now. He is not highly recruited, but just strikes me as having some untapped talent our staff could bring out of him. Hopefully he commits this weekend, along with Robiskie, on his visit. Maybe get the ball rolling for some of the others guys to jump aboard.

I wonder if OSU is really interested in taking both or if this is a first come first served situation.

BTW - I reallly appreciate the way the Mods keep info on a recruit in one thread. It is great when a kid resurfaces like this and you can go back and revisit his history. In that context he doesn't sound like the 'reach' he might otherwise appear to be.

I don't see why they wouldn't take both. Unless we get a few guys on signing day out of the blue, we are really only in on 3 guys: Wilson, Gwaltney and Ashley. Getting both Washington and Robiskie makes 20 for the class, which is right around where we all thought we would be at.

Plus he is an athlete really, not just a WR. He, Hartline and Amos all have the ability to play somewhere int eh secondary. So, it may have something to do Dukes.. or may not. I just think it would be a pleasure to bring in 4 solid WR/ATH to go along with our studs already.

Agreed. Especially with the Dukes situation undecided, picking up additional WR recruits makes sense.

No offense to either of these kids, but being invited this late screams 'Plan B'. Two plan B guys is fine. A plan B speed guy plus a plan B power guy or big speed guy I can see. Two plan B 'speed' guys would surprise me - especially when most of the guys who have been up in the air for the past couple of weeks have been power and big speed. Not questioning it in any way if they both come on board, just wondering if - given that this is the final weekend - they are making sure they get one. JMHO.

BSB $

At 6' 180 lbs with a 4.5 forty and a 38 inch vertical leap, Donald was set to decide between Indiana and Illinois. However, the Buckeyes' offer is a dream come true for Donald. He would prefer to play offense but says he is being recruited as a safety. However, that will not play a factor in his decision. Donald holds a 3.4 GPA with a 19 ACT score so he was receiving offers from schools like Stanford and Duke. Washington says it is his dream to play for a perennial power such as tOSU. He will visit this weekend.

here's another thing to like about Washington...

"You can’t teach athleticism. He’s a good football player, but he’s a better athlete. That’s why I say he’s still raw. He’s learning how to play the game."

-Franklin Central coach Lance Scheib

I agree.

With five open slots, and only four other players on the board (Daniels - Minnesota verbal; Ashley - USC lean; Gwaltney - 50/50; Wilson - OSU lean), I would imagine that the staff would take both Robiskie and Washington. Even if by some miracle all six of those players wanted to sign with OSU, the staff would likely find room for the "extra" body.

LJB - how do you get 5 open spots? I count 15 with Worthington, that leaves 3-4 as JT already said they want to take between 18-19 this year.

I agree they should find a spot for one of those 4 but not both of the late offers. It think its first come, first served on Robiskie and Washington.

I did read on the BN Recruiting board that Petrey was officially asked to delay his enrollment until Jan 06 because Huston got his 6th year. Does this factor into anything? Wasnt the staff already counting on Huston to get his 6th?

No, no you can't count on Huston's sixth year til it's official, ask Mililani. You just don't know what the NCAA will do :roll2: .

Incidently, I do think getting Washington and or Robiskie this late would be nice pickups. They are both quality kids and are not academic risks. And as someone pointed on an above thread, you can't teach athlectism which apparently both of these guys have. However, I question how many more safty or wide receiver prospects with 4.5+ speed we need on this team. I realize the 40 time doesn't necessarily translate to football speed , agility, lateral movement etc. etc. But I'd still rather have a true cover corner than more safty types. Just my opinion, anyone else thinking the same thing.
