CB Gareon Conley (D.C. Defenders)

Uhhhhh, maybe I'm under a different illusion here......isn't it harder to play cornerback than safety? ya know, covering the WR right off the line rather than picking them up when they've broken free? I keep thinking that CB's hips and quick turns, whereas a safety is more closing speed and hard hitting with someone coming straight at one.....

Bottom line, I would think it's easier to take a CB and turn them into a safety than vice versa, and ergo a good CB is a scarcer commodity. I figure I'm missing something here, based on Oregon's position on Conley, but what am I missing?

:gobucks3::gobucks4::banger:

Playing safety is more than just coverage though...Gareon is a SKINNY kid, and his build is that way as well. No offense to Gareon, b/c he's a stud at CB, but he 100% doesn't have that safety build where he'd play downhill and physical in run support and TE coverage.

Your overall gist makes sense, but CB's who typically move to safety are guys who have a safety mentality and physical traits a la a Malcolm Jenkins or Ronde Barber who for years showed toughness in run support.

Can you imagine a guy like Deion Sanders ever being asked to play safety? Not nearly physical enough....

Maybe the linebacker situation is so bad that we could try him at Mike??

Gareon Conley (Massillon, Ohio) officially de-committed from the Michigan Wolverines on Tuesday morning, and it appears the 6'2", 165-pounder will wind up joining the Ohio State Buckeyes' 2013 recruiting class fairly soon.Conley made an unofficial visit to Columbus last Saturday and has set up an official visit for December 7th, which is expected to be a massive recruiting weekend for the Buckeyes.

Deion was asked to play S, at Baltimore and Washington. And didnt fare all that well. Yes, he was at the end of his career, but it also didn't suit his. Deion, isn't the most physical of players and never liked to tackle. Not a good trait of a S when the guys u cover are much bigger than wrs

Repeated as a remainder of the strength of Brady Hoke's word.
Hoke only pulls the offer if you lie and take visits behind the coaches backs (Brown, Dawson). Conley was upfront and honest.

Back on topic .. is Ohio State recruiting him as a DB or a WR?
