DB Isaiah Pryor (transfer to Notre Dame)

White to WR = Pryor to LB given the insanely loaded DB class?

Personally, I thought Pryor has always projected best at safety but if he packs some pounds on, he could certainly slide down. It is nice to have that versatility but imo, he still projects at safety although we can adapt him as need be. I think all of Okudah, Wade and Riep could play safety (in order from most to least likely in my eyes), but right now I like Wade and Riep at corner.

SIGNED: FOUR-STAR IMG ACADEMY SAFETY ISAIAH PRYOR MAKES THE MOVE FROM SEC TERRITORY TO COLUMBUS

79294_h.jpg,qitok=DgfO6fqg.pagespeed.ce.NTwXaTgdhz.jpg

For most recruiting classes, there's a good chance that a player like Isaiah Pryor – ranked No. 47 nationally – would be the crown jewel of the defense or possibly even the entire class. As it stands, Pryor is the third-highest rated defensive back that the Buckeyes are bringing in.

And that's not a knock on the Georgia native at all. It's more of a testament to just how good this

The early stages of Pryor's recruitment saw the Lawrenceville (Archer) star making a name for himself on the camp circuit. In 2015, he received a number of underclassmen honors during the various spring and summer camps.

Some of the first programs to extend offered included Ohio State, Tennessee, Georgia, and Oklahoma. Michigan offered in February of 2015 and schools like Florida State and Clemson followed suit the following month. Pryor actually took a pair of visits to Ann Arbor that spring and also trekked to Florida, Florida State, Michigan State, Clemson, and others throughout the summer, competing in camps all over the country.

During this time, he would also make his third trip to Columbus. Pryor had developed quite the relationship with Urban Meyer and Kerry Coombs, and the Ohio State chatter really started to gain steam. The Archer High School School star was planning to return to Columbus for a game, but it didn't take that long for his recruitment to reach its culmination.

2017 Recruiting Snapshot: Isaiah Pryor

IsaiahPryorAJC.jpg

The Player
Isaiah Pryor is a 6-foot-2 195-pound safety from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Pryor committed to Ohio State over offers from Alabama, LSU, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Michigan, and every other big-name program throughout the nation. A versatile defender, Pryor has played all over the defensive backfield as a high schooler, though he projects to strong safety at Ohio State.

Pryor is strong against the run, but doesn't come crashing down out of control. He keeps his feet under him, which allows him to make plays on the ball without losing visibility. He displays his range against the pass and the run, and also triggers very well against screen passes. He is stronger than the receivers who have tried to block him to this point and is able to get off of blocks pretty quickly.

The Comparison
Pryor is a very good size for an incoming freshman safety, and compares to past Buckeyes like Tyvis Powell and Malik Hooker in that way. His ability to crash down and defend the run, as well as combat screens, is reminiscent of Jermale Hines. Like Hines, Pryor may be more "football fast" than "track fast", but there has yet to be a need for a stopwatch once the ball is snapped.

The Fit
While Pryor has played some cornerback and slot cornerback in his time, he projects to a deep safety, which in OSU's current defense is the strong safety. This position allows him to use his range against both the run and the pass, and the fact that he isn't afraid of scratching up his helmet makes him a very good fit for this Ohio State defense. Can he cover ground like Malik Hooker? Who can? They'll ask him to, but few are actually going to be able to answer that question in the affirmative.

IN STAR-STUDDED 2017 CLASS, OHIO STATE SAFETY ISAIAH PRYOR SEEMS TO BE OVERLOOKED

80008_h.jpg,qitok=B6c59y3F.pagespeed.ce.BAaC7Id0Dv.jpg

When Isaiah Pryor enrolled at Ohio State in January, it marked 18 months since he made his commitment to the Buckeyes.

Pryor was Ohio State’s 10th pledge in the 2017 class and he committed all the way back in July of 2015. There was no drama in his commitment, either, which is somewhat odd for a player of Pryor’s caliber. Not that all recruits have it, but four-star prospects from Georgia who commit to a school far away from home that early in the process usually express at least some interest in other places.

Pryor didn’t, though, and perhaps that’s why some people seem to forget about him when Ohio State’s 2017 recruiting class is discussed. But it’s also easy to overlook a player like Pryor when the Buckeyes signed such a talented class.

The No. 59 player in the country and the seventh-ranked safety, according to 247Sports composite, Pryor would be the highest-rated player for all but 18 schools in the country. On paper, he was Ohio State’s 10th-highest ranked recruit in this 2017 class.

That all speaks more to the amount of talent the Buckeyes brought in than it does Pryor, of course, but it also might help illustrate why Pryor sometimes gets lost in the shuffle in this class.

The 6-foot-2, 195-pounder does not see it that way, though.

“Forget about me? No. I’m just here to work, here to get my degree, here to play,” he said on National Signing Day. “They can forget about me if they want to, but they’re going to hear about me eventually.”

The entire class is loaded, but Ohio State’s defensive back haul in 2017 is perhaps the most impressive. The Buckeyes signed six players in the secondary with Pryor being one of those.

He’s the lone player coming in as a safety, though, as Jeffrey Okudah, Shaun Wade, Kendall Sheffield, Marcus Williamson and Amir Riep will all begin their Ohio State careers at cornerback. That could be a big reason why Pryor potentially gets on the field as a freshman in the fall. After the departure of Malik Hooker and the reported move to offense by Eric Glover-Williams, the Buckeyes are a bit thin at safety.

“We’ve only got like five safeties,” Pryor said. “They might move a corner to safety or something like that, but I feel like I could come in here and play whether it be special teams or anything like that.”

Isaiah's going to be a beast for us. Going to be one of only 3 true safeties on scholarship on the roster after next year (Fuller & Wint being the others) so the opportunites are going to be white-hot for him going forward, he'll have the best in the DB business (Schiano and Combs) teaching him, and he's got all the tools and drive to be great.

Easy guy to get overlooked with that amazing 2017 DB recruiting class, but really excited for this young man
