OHIO STATE SAFETY JORDAN FULLER NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN FOR SECOND CONSECUTIVE YEAR

Ohio State safety Jordan Fuller has been recognized as one of college football's top student-athletes for the second year in a row.
Fuller was named Monday as a first-team Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), marking the second consecutive year that he has earned Academic All-American recognition. He was named a second-team Academic All-American by CoSIDA in 2017.
A second-year starter at safety for the Buckeyes and a business major in the classroom, Fuller has maintained a 3.81 grade-point average all the while serving as a team captain and the leader of Ohio State's secondary this season, recording 72 total tackles (second-most on the team), 2.5 tackles for loss, one interception and four pass breakups.
Fuller was one of 28 Ohio State football players to receive Academic All-Big Ten honors last week.

There is nothing Jordan Fuller doesn’t study. Week after week, the Ohio State safety studies the team’s game plan against the upcoming opponent. And, of course, he studies for his marketing major.
Fuller, named a first-team Academic All-American last week — he was on the second team last year — balances his work in all areas of his life. And where the “student” part in student-athlete often gets lost, Fuller embraces it.
Given the rigor of his coursework in his third year at Ohio State, Fuller wasn’t sure he’d attain Academic All-American status again. When he did, he felt it showed his hard work had paid off.
“There were a lot of hours that went into that,” Fuller said. “There was a lot of studying.”
Fuller said even with taking business calculus and statistics, classes he described as among his toughest, the difficulties of finding academic success came more from trying to find the time and energy to study rather than the material of the classes. Returning from practices and games, “you’re so tired and sometimes you don’t feel like doing the work.”
It took time and effort to develop a strategy for striking the balance. Sharing a starting safety role early in 2017 before taking over as the starter in the middle of the season, Fuller said he developed a plan through trial and error that season to maintain high grades — a 3.30 grade-point average is needed to become an Academic All-American.
“This year, I had a set plan and knew exactly what to do,” said Fuller, who is second on the team in tackles with 72 this season.
For younger players, the temptation to fill downtime playing video games can be great, Fuller said. The stresses of the football life can take a toll and hitting the couch is an easy escape.

Jordan Fuller announced on Friday that he will not enter the 2019 NFL draft, instead opting to remain at Ohio State for his senior year.
A starting safety for the Buckeyes for each of the past two seasons, Fuller likely would have been selected in the middle rounds of the draft if he declared for early entry. Fuller indicated in interview sessions leading up to the Rose Bowl, however, that he was not entirely pleased with his play this past season.
“I think I did OK,” Fuller said on Dec. 12. “It wasn’t the season I wanted to have.”
Now, Fuller will look to play up to his personal standard as a senior and potentially improve his stock for the 2020 NFL draft in the process. Additionally, staying at Ohio State will give Fuller – an Academic All-American for each of the past two years – the opportunity to complete his degree before leaving school.
Fuller will be one of two returning captains for the Buckeyes next season, along with linebacker Tuf Borland, and will unquestionably be looked up to as one of the team's top leaders for 2019.
With Brendon White also back in the fold for next season, Ohio State will return both of its starting safeties.
