Could Buckeye Safety Jordan Fuller be the Next Malik Hooker?

How do you replace an All-American? You simply get as many players ready as you can and then let the best man win.

As a true freshman last season, Jordan Fuller was the backup to Damon Webb at free safety. He played in 12 games and tallied 11 tackles. Those aren't exactly the numbers of a future All-American, but they're remarkably similar to the 13 games and 10 tackles that Malik Hooker notched in 2015.

Hooker took his experience as a backup that season and parlayed it into a near-legendary one-and-done performance this past season for the Buckeyes, the likes of which would be much too lofty to expect to be repeated just one year later.

And yet here we are.

Could Fuller grow into a starter at Hooker's departed strong safety position? So far he's on a proper path.

"I’ve gotten so much better," Fuller told the-Ozone recently. "Sometimes when I’m bored I will watch film of when I first came here. Compared to now it’s a whole different person. I'm settled in. I don't feel like a young guy anymore."

And when he looks at the old film, does he cringe, or does he feel pride in how far he has come.

"Pride," he said. "I definitely feel pride."

Recognition is what sets Hooker apart. There are a lot of guys with freak athleticism but can't make the plays Hooker did. He see's the play develop so well and makes the great read just when he needs to to make the play far away. IF Fuller can develop that a bit more and makes even the pass break up where Hooker got picks, I'll be ecstatic.
