Greg Schiano (HC Rutgers Scarlet Knights)

To summarize: Coach Schiano is a great coach, he was our top candidate, we conducted a background check. We crumbled under fan pressure due to unrealistic expectations.

What a train wreck for UT right now. He basically confirmed there was zero wrongdoing of Schiano, yet never actually stated why they pulled out. Heck they at least should have either stuck to "We feel he was too linked to PSU scandal" or even "The fans didn't like him so we changed our minds".... as spineless as all that is at least they have a position. Instead, that statement is even worse, it leaves it open for interpretation, and none of those can be good. Heck make up a lie about paperwork or some rule, something! Can't believe that AD still has a job right now after this debacle. Can't wait to see UT's reaction when the next guy hired has no track record of being a great coach.

Down with Tennessee.

Nothing more then feeling the pressure of making a big decision. News flash for Tennessee fan, no big name coach is coming to your program and your best chance was a candidate like Greg.

So now they prop up Greg and how his character shouldn't be in question and yet they pulled his offer? You just look incompetent, but then again nothing has changed for 10 years.

Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith on the Greg Schiano-Tennessee fallout
Updated 1:56 PM; Posted 1:55 PM

By Doug Lesmerises, cleveland.com

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- If another college football program wants to hire Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano - and Tennessee no longer does - this is what Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith would tell another athletic director and fanbase.

"Don't judge him on an unsubstantiated accusation," Smith told cleveland.com on Monday. "There was no level of substantiation around that accusation. None. And if you really get to know the man, you'll find he has high integrity and great character."

Smith said he first spoke to Tennessee AD John Currie about two-and-a-half weeks ago as the Volunteers went about replacing fired football coach Butch Jones. By Sunday, Schiano was the choice. But a backlash by fans, some of it centered around a second-hand claim that Schiano witnessed former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky sexually abuse a child while Schiano was a Penn State assistant in the early '90s, led Tennessee to back off.

That's the accusation Smith is referencing. It was used by a portion of the fans and some Tennessee politicians to stop Schiano's hiring.

Cont'd ...

Stop bringing up Venables and Foster. We have established that they are lifetime coordinators.

Let us look at why coaches leave schools. Better opportunity, better pay, conflicts with their current head coach.

Why do coaches choose the next opportunity? An opportunity to be a head coach, they have a relationship with the AD, they want to coach at a place they graduated from or coached at, they want to coach at a traditional powerhouse, they want to coach at a place they can recruit the best talent.

One example you bring up is Smart. Let us examine Smart. Born in Alabama and grew up in Georgia. Graduated from the University of Georgia. Spent his whole career in the South. Was the DC for Alabama from 2008-2015. Let say his first opportunity to leave Alabama would be 2011.

Here are some job openings after the 2011 season. Ohio State, West Virginia, UNC, New Mexico, Arizona, Tuane, Penn State, Florida Atlantic, Ole Miss, New Mexico, Arizona, Akron, Memphis, Illinois, UAB, Kansas, ASU, UCLA, WSU, Texas A&M, Colorado ST, Fresno ST, Tulane, Arkansas and some other schools. Which one of those would be a step up from the DC at Alabama? Ohio State, UCLA, Penn State. Ohio State was going to hire Urban Meyer no matter who was available. UCLA would be as much a bad fit culture wise as Chip Kelly to Florida. I don't think he wanted to touch the Penn State job.

2012 the most notable job openings were Wisconsin, Auburn, Tennessee and Oregon. Alvarez had his man in Bielema. Oregon was not a good fit. Tennessee is Tennessee. That leaves Auburn who just fired a coach two years after he won them the national championship.

2013 notable coaching changes USC, Penn State, Texas. USC wanted to bring in someone with ties to USC so they bring in Sarkisian. I don't think he wanted the Penn State job. I don't know much about the Texas coaching search at that time. I know Strong was the hottest name having success at Louisville.

I can go into the other years, but I think I have made my point about the right opportunity no showing itself until the Georgia spot opened up. He might have been waiting for the Georgia position his whole life. You will have to ask him that.

Tl;dr?

Jesus, dude - let the argument die already. I wasn't even responding to you
