Greg Schiano (HC Rutgers Scarlet Knights)

I’ve always heard NC State could be a sleeping giant. Not sure why I think this but someplace like that could be a good fit?

Yeah, but Dave Doeren is "sleeping" on that job and he just earned a contract extension.

NCSU coach Dave Doeren earns contract extension with win over UNC

The Wolfpack’s eighth win of the season triggered an automatic one-year extension in Doeren’s current contract, which will now go through the 2020 season.

I just hope he has his focus entirely on this game.
I don’t see him interviewing for any other jobs this year. And for the money his lawyer can handle it. So just buckle down and your players might even play better cause they rally around you.

Also as much as it sucks to see his name dragged through the mud. You have to wonder if he dodged a bullet with what they are going through now.

He did dodge a bullet. Tennessee job has been toxic for about 13 or 14 years since Phil Fulmer had the audacity to not win 10 games two years in a row.

Coach Schiano will ultimately be fine. He's incredibly well respected in coaching circles (just not in NFL scouting circles, though he's admitted he's changed). Worst case scenario, the way I figure is the Rutgers job will be open in three years anyway. Either Chris Ash drags them back to respectability and is offered a better job, or Ash doesn't and his five year window will have expired and he'll be bounced. I expect Rutgers would welcome Schiano back.

Question. If Urban suddenly took a "leave of absence" to "spend more time with his family," would anyone here object to Schiano being promoted to the job?

I would not.

Religion, politics and Urban Meyer ever retiring.

Things one does not discuss in polite company.

After interviewing others and making sure he's the best candidate, yes . Bill Davis/Warriner type promotion (ie he's on the staff he'll probably do a good job no need to really look around and interview) oh hell no...

I'd be ok with Greg yeah... You watch those highlight films and Greg is the one pumping the team up prior to the game which I found surprising since he seems laid back.

College coaches rarely work in the Pro's and if a coach can get Rutgers to a top 10 program then I'd love to see what he can do with resources.

Tennessee fan here. Would y'all mind if I came here to vent? I got banned on the tn forum. It was like 3 of us against 9000 on the board.

Here's what got me banned.

The tn fanbase threw a quality head coach under the bus. They slandered an innocent man who was ready to join the big orange family. He knew of any issues we had, he knew of the tremendous pressure the tn job entails and he was ready to join us in our story. I'm not gonna defend his record, the sheep only see what they want, but he brought a trash team to relevance, got NFL head coaching experience, worked with some of the best minds in football, and was ready to go to battle with us. After the tn fanbase publicly hung him the deal was called off, so now we have no coach, and won't get a coach with his credentials.

You can’t battle the delusional in great numbers.
