Same players that got burnt all year so not sure why we would put ourselves in that situation again.

I'll gladly give up a few 5-10 yard plays if it meand avoiding the 50+ yard plays. Which we have and you can't deny it's helped to give a little cushion once in a while.

We aren't doing it exclusively so it's not like we dont press anymore. I've noticed we bail on early downs and then press late. I think our strategy is limit big plays, get them in third and long, and then come after them

It helped for the most part that their QBs couldn't hit the broadside of a barn. Otherwise that turn and run is a recipe for just dink and dunk all the way down the field. One missed tackle and boom the guy is gone. Again MSU DBs were all over our superior receivers. Why is that so difficult for us with the DB talent we have.....

Did you see the Sparty QB rip off a 50+ yard run? That was a big play. Sparty was playing on offense with one hand tied behind their backs, backup QB and backup WRs. Their offense was not Clemson explosive. That new technique is going to get us killed.

One defensive positive I (think) I saw is that with the LB's at normal depth, the run fits are much much much better.

That, combined with with competent safety play, is what they need for tsun.

Point taken. Would rather continue press coverage and have the Got Damn DBs turn for the frick’n ball.

Making down field passes are hard. They are made a lot easier when an OC knows that it’s a 50/50 proposition there will be a flag going in his favor.

No that was not cover three and I know what zones are trust me. In cover three corners are not covering 5 to 7 yard routes on the side line. That was still man coverage but they were using their new "release" technique or some stupid shit the commentators mentioned several times during the broadcast that they were told by Schiano. It sucked. They threw numerous stop routes on the side lines and out routes right behind the corners because they had released and ran at the snap.

Why is it stupid as shit? Well they totally give up inside leverage from the get go. They make themselves completely vulnerable to the stop, back shoulder, and out, and more importantly anything across the middle without inside leverage. It was not cover three.

With the exception of 3rd and long they were still walked up. My son plays LB and we were talking about how bad it would suck trying to get to your zone and find your read up in the LOS. I understand trying to confuse the oline and qb with blitz looks but I still am not crazy about it.

LB's are not on the heels of the DL.

I re-watched the first half and didn't see them waked up much at all.

2. We have our LBs playing normal depth
3. Our Corners are mixing their coverages better.

my best guess on that bail coverage is that it helps have the CB's looking at the play instead of back turned chasing the WR (run game help).

other than just being a change up that dares a bad QB to beat you. Too much of that nonsense will get them killed against any kind of accurate QB though.

I didn't make myself clear, I meant we were normal depth except on third and long. On obvious passing situations we walked up, which is why I explained how hard it would be to get to where you need to be from the LOS vs 5 yards deep, much easier to read 1 or 2 depending where you are and get to where you need to be instead of being up in the LOS where you can't see shat.

Exactly my thoughts. That is garbage bullshit and is going to get us killed.

I can see the logic in it though on obvious pass downs. Like Schiano said, guarantees 1-1 blocking for DL.

Biggest problem there is that the DE's have done shat since Bosa went out.

I'm not a coach but I did stay at a Holiday Inn a few times. It seems to me that we have simplified things and stopped asking the LBs to do too much. We have also found a very good Safety in Brendan White. We have also improved with our angles and tackling has been much better. We also did not commit any major penalties on D against Sparty. These are all good signs of improvement imho.

some of it has to be chalked up to one of the worst offenses in CFB but yeah, I feel like there was fundamental improvement in those areas the past 2 weeks.

Run fits, angles and tackling are going to be tested all to hell the next two weeks starting with Maryland.

They can run it with anyone.
