DC/LB Coach Jim Knowles (Official Thread)

it is, but this quote is about a star player that everyone has going elsewhere unless I missed something. With an announcement very soon.

Yes. Probably just some kind of axe to grind from the old man not feeling they were getting enough attention. Day seems to have learned the lesson of Thou Shall Recruit from Urban so hopefully that gets over to the defensive side. That sure didn't seem the case from dad's comments but like you said, they could have just chosen to not spend resources on a sailing ship. Who knows?

There's also a wide range of hypothetical reasons a star recruit would want to hear from a new coach, from general information to ego to other things, most of which may not overlap with genuine interest given the fact that it's ending so soon. And if he truly is open to other options then this commitment will just be a starting point for everybody.

I'm not sure that this is what you're looking to deal with, especially in the transfer portal era. Day has said that it's now even more important to sign kids who want to be at tOSU and this ego-rant from the dad makes me question whether he is or would be worth the effort.
I've coached HS football and been an AD. One of the first questions asked these days has to do with the behavior of parents. Now more than ever bad parents aren't worth it.

Went back and read Harris’s thread from Post 1 and I don’t have an issue with his dad. Guy answers questions when asked and doesn’t seem like a helicopter parent. He wants his son to make the correct business decision.

He raised some valid, if blunt, points.
